Top Reddit comments about Genetic Engineering Science Fiction:

u/Dr_Gats · 1 pointr/technology

awesome read, pretty far reaching. I love how the scope of stories like this can just make everyday life feel like a single page in a book. If you want a longer read with the same flavor, you should check out Counting Heads by David Marusek, local author up here in Alaska. Awesome projection of modern technology, and how it shapes society. Delves into nano tech, becoming immortal, cloning/genetic engineering, and all the social changes that go along with it. The whole story is wrapped up in a multi-faceted plot that spans generations. Probably the top on my scifi list, and the sequel is equally amazing.

ants as well. The litrpg sub is empty? There must be a different one because it's a very active sub, the one I mean. Also, I am scared to post. I did the other day, just saying this book was like Mirco by Michael Crichton. A chick went so crazy on me. Like nuts. I fed into it. An hour later, she gave me 1 star Amazon reviews on all my novels. Then she went and 1 starred me on Goodreads. It took my sales from 6 a day to 1.
I do promote when free, in the free channels and that works great. Also, I don't think Reddit ads work very well. I spent $200 when I released Live Like a God. $50 in books, kindle unlimited, suggest me a book, and science fiction. I can not link one sale to the over 500 clicks.
By comparison, my google ads got a sale every 150 clicks. 80 clicks for facebook, 10 for AMS ads. I do want to try Reddit again. I'm simply close to being done with them.

u/cobalt_owl · 7 pointsr/transformation

There's this transhuman anthro civet sequence that I wrote, with art mostly by Jakkal. Also, this image that I collaborated on- which doesn't yet have a story, but which is set in the same sort of future.

This anthro wolf sequence and story have a similar theme.

This story, about an older couple deciding to become feral wolves, does a pretty good job of creating both realistic motivations and a realistic universe.

A lot of Phil Geusz's science fiction books involve anthro rabbit transformations in fairly plausible future settings.

I'd also recommend the novel Kismet. The transformations there are all backstory and aren't described in detail, but it's a very realistic and well written depiction of a future where people choose to become anthros.

u/Railstar0083 · 7 pointsr/Overwatch

Nice. I play tanks too. Old man reflexes can't keep up with all these hit-scan robots in the queue. Winston and Reinhardt mostly.

It's sci-fi. And a first novel, so YMMV, but I had a great time writing it. My sister is a nurse. I will share your book with her. =)

By Light Alone by Adam Roberts

> In a world where people have been genetically engineered so that they can photosynthesize sunlight with their hair, hunger is a thing of the past, and food an indulgence. The poor grow their hair, while the rich affect baldness and flaunt their wealth by still eating. But other hungers remain. The young daughter of an affluent New York family is kidnapped. But the ransom demands are refused. A year later a young woman arrives at the family home claiming to be their long lost daughter. She has changed so much, she has lived on light, can anyone be sure that she has come home? Adam Roberts' new novel is yet another amazing melding of startling ideas and beautiful prose. Set in a New York of the future it nevertheless has echoes of a Fitzgeraldesque affluence and art-deco style. It charts his further progress as one of the most important writers of his generation.

I think the sci-fi novel Counting Heads portrays this quite plausible future reality convincingly and realistically illustrates some of the problems a partial post-scarcity society might face. I'd recommend the book for science fiction enthusiasts and/or anyone who would like to pursue this notion of "higher technology, less jobs" further.

u/cachow6 · 1 pointr/writing

Hey everyone! My dad just published a science-fiction novel on amazon as an eBook, thought some of you might want to check it out! (It's only $3) It's basically about a kid from Mars coming to Earth and getting mixed up in a rebellion against the unified world government.

You MUST check out the tragically underread David Marusek. Genuinely mindblowing post-scarcity, post-human SF--with thriller plotting.

Sounds like you might enjoy Bruce Sterling, as well; smart, fast-moving near-future SF. Holy Fire is probably a good one to check out.

You might get a kick out of Rudy Rucker, too. His stuff is quite silly and gonzo, but packed with real ideas.

Cory Doctorow is controversial on here, but I thought Makers really delivered as thought-provoking yet well plotted SF.

u/WoolyCrafter · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

By Light Alone excellent book (fiction though!)

u/Sinclair_Ericksson · 1 pointr/scifi

I put the link for the US site, mainly because I didn't think about it too much since I'm in the US and it defaults to that. It might work if you search your regional site, so when I looked on amazon.ca (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B074LJ41KT) it shows it for free for me. If that doesn't work.. I don't know how to fix it.

u/redshift76 · 2 pointsr/suggestmeabook

Verisimilitude's Twin. A single character is cloned/copied billions of times, essentially making him the only person in the entire fictional universe.

u/I_throw_socks_at_cat · 3 pointsr/printSF

The Godmakers is one of my favourite Frank Herbert books. Without giving too much away, it's set in a future where gods (which seem to be living artefacts of human psi powers) are created as necessary and in one case the process goes out of control, changing the fate of a talented but otherwise-ordinary interstellar scout and first contact specialist.

So is The Eyes of Heisenberg, which is the story of change returning to a world so planned and regimented that there's been no social or political development for a hundred thousand years.
