I feel like all biology teachers have a closet full of those microorganism plushies, haha! I made a similar comment in another thread, which I'll repost here:

  • MiiR water bottle - Or any nice, reusable water bottle. With MiiR, each purchase comes with a tracking number (printed on a small silver medallion) so you can see how your contribution is helping fund a charitable project. I think mine helped fund a clean water facility in Africa.
  • Compost bin
  • Energy efficient lights (I was going to link a lightbulb, but that's kind of a weird gift.)
  • Reusable shopping bags (some come in very cute designs)
  • A plant - Maybe an indoor plant which she can keep in the classroom if she wants. You can get a nice pot for it too!

You can put them in something like this and take out every few days and mix in:

No bags, and I don't run it through the dishwasher every time I empty. I'll clean it out maybe once every couple months when it gets particularly fragrant, other than that, I just empty it and put the lid back on.
