Starting Keto today. I've done research but still feel as if I probably don't know what I'm doing. Feel free to call me out/tear me to shreds if you see something that doesn't look like I'm keto'ing correctly!

My husband has kidney disease and his doc limited him to less than 2,300 mg per day. I keep him below that and his kidneys have stopped declining.

Here are some things that I keep around that might help you with your uncle.

Here are some things we use a lot that might help.

I know you said you don't like substitutes, but you mentioned missing pasta. These egg noodles are the best I've had (you can find them at Ralphs market for half the cost of Amazon). I've fed them to people who never guessed they are gluten free. Most popular pasta sauces are gluten free and say so on the label. I love the egg noodles with some alfredo sauce.

I love figuring out what to eat. That's been my favorite part, aside from the numbers dropping on the scale. It actually made me quite sad to read about your food days. Really, you just gotta get creative.

First of all...bacon. So freakin' easy. Microwave on paper towels. Done. A few strips and a couple cheese sticks, and there's a breakfast in a hurry. And you can add bacon as a side to anything.

Steak has been my go to. The first day I bought a sirloin for myself and a t-bone for my boyfriend. You can find them for anywhere from 4-20 bucks, so you have to keep your eye out. It is incredibly easy to cook; just some salt, pepper, and minced garlic (you can buy a jar of this for a dollar), put it in a pan on medium high for about two minutes on each side, and bam, beautiful.

For sides, some sauteed squash, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, asparagus...anything. There are endless possibilities. Cook it with cream or butter, add spices, add cheese, bake it for awhile, whatever you want.

Then I always eat a spinach salad. I chop some spinach, dice some kalamata olives, throw on some feta, sliced mushrooms, avocado pieces, and dressing.

I always make a large meal so that I can eat the leftovers the next day. If there are enough sides, I'll leave plenty of meat for tomorrow.

This is how I eat at work.
Frozen veggies are extremely cheap. I usually take a bag of frozen cauliflower or broccoli with me to work, microwave in a tupperware dish, toss in some pesto, and eat. I also microwave 4 pieces of bacon on paper towels, and then have a chunk of cheese. Sometimes, I'll take a tupperware dish of spinach leaves and crumbled feta, and then pour some dressing on when I am ready to eat.

Welcome! You are in the right place.

Here's a keto food pyramid I like a lot: http://i.imgur.com/pBZKfPR.jpg

You can eat very well on keto. Try not to think of it as some sort of punishment or drudgery, because it's not. I highly recommend simple component meals. A meat plus a veggie side. When in doubt, fry in butter and add salt. If your SO wants a starch side, they can add it themselves.

Your family may not be open to faux-carb replacements like casseroles with cauliflower masquerading as bread crumbs, but how about a bacon cheeseburger salad? One of my favorite meals is a cheeseburger on a bed of spinach with whatever toppings I want at the time (pickles, olives, bacon, ranch or blue cheese dressing, Heinz reduced sugar ketchup and mustard, etc.). Another fave is chicken with alfredo sauce and zucchini noodles, or buffalo wings with blue cheese, or pulled pork with sugar-free BBQ sauce, or steak with buttered broccoli, or crack slaw, or Fat Head Pizza, or these meatballs in a low-carb spaghetti sauce.

Whatever you've been eating, you can likely keto-fy it by removing the carbs. If you need help or ideas, just ask here and we can help.

JFC this is one sexy pizza

I love Don Peppino's. Hands down the best canned pizza sauce there is. If you can't find it in your area, order it on Amazon. Definitely worth it.

u/CountlessWorlds · 4 pointsr/ShittyVeganFoodPorn

Probably daiya cheese sauce, that's what I use when I sneak vegan cheese into restaurants, it's so good.

Here is a link to it:

Daiya Cheeze Sauce Variety Pack :: Cheddar, Alfredo & Zesty Cheddar :: Vegan, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Soy Free, Rich Cheesy Flavor (3 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F3DGN25/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_TMLPDbHVGQZY3

Depends on one parish to another depending on the parishioner (I think those are the right words), but sometimes they can own it for business as long as they don't use it personally. So if you Amish friend's neighbor had one, depending on the local rules, the neighbor could use it to help his friend, or your friend could borrow it and use it. Also, they might have to have steel tires.

Thank you! Seriously, make this. I buy the whole round roast at Costco for like $5 a pound (if you buy the thin slices at the grocery store it's like $8 a pound and we just slice it with our meat slicer) and always keep a bag of a few raw slices in my fridge to quickly slice into strips and make tacos, cheese steak like sandwiches, stir fry with veggies, it's really awesome. I freeze the slices in 3/4 lb bags.

Also, this is the tastiest shit ever and it's low fat so it can be decadent without adding a lot of calories. I think it's also vegan? Anyway, it's amazing.

u/dualactioncomplete · 1 pointr/keto

Pizza was a challenge, until tonight.

I sourced out a low-carb mozzarella cheese crust recipe (It is insanely good, but you gotta love cheese for it to work.)

http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/thinandcrispy_pizza.html

I found a VERY low-carb and tasty marinara sauce:

Raos marinara sauce http://www.amazon.com/Raos-Homemade-Marinara-Sauces-24oz/dp/B0001IXDQY

Combine that with the crust recipe from above, along with meats and veggies, and lots of cheese, absolutely stunning.

Oh, and the crust really firms up when it gets cold, it is wicked good cold.

u/Kemmerly · 1 pointr/RandomActsofMakeup

my most simple favorite is BBQ pork sandwiches. You get pre seasoned pork by Hormel looks like this (it's by the pork shoulders). and this campbell's slower cooker sauce I place those 2 things in the slow cooker overnight, and in the morning I shred it and put it on a bun! So delicious.

u/ninjajpbob · 5 pointsr/MealPrepSunday

Was going to make a joke about it costing $200, but it costs $50 for 150 ounces. I guess it must be pretty good.

https://www.amazon.com/Cucina-Antica-Tomato-Basil-25-Ounce/dp/B001N3NPV4

Edit: a cucumber

u/Seductive_G · 1 pointr/keto

here you go just scroll to the next few pics. You’ll see the nutrition facts. The taste is really good. It doesn’t taste like some cheap sweet marinara. It’s worth the buy.

u/rharmelink · 1 pointr/ketorecipes

I got a bargain on jet.com. The 15.5 oz jars were $2.50 apiece. I got 18 of them and mentioned it on the Keto group. They were sold out several hours later. :)

When I need more, I plan to go to Amazon:

A case of 12 32-oz jars for $111.59

Saves time and effort to have it delivered to my door instead of dragging it back from the store.

I was getting it from WalMart before, on a rollback special, before I saw the bargain at jet.com. Cheapest regular price I see there now is a 24 oz jar for $7.59.

u/sushiehoang · 1 pointr/Keto_Food

Sorry I will be better about posting recipes/macros! The dough was made with the Fathead Dough recipe. I used a cheap pizza pan with perforated holes on the bottom and lined it with parchment paper.

https://www.ditchthecarbs.com/fat-head-pizza/

Make sure you use blanched almonds instead of unblanched/almond meal. I seasoned my crust with sea salt, garlic powder, oregano, and rosemary. After the initial crust is baked, I will flip it over and lay my toppings over it and then bake it for an additional ~5 minutes.

Something i found that has been amazing for pizza....Bj's wholsale club has a marinara sauce that is 4 net carbs per half cup serving.

Also on amazon, for those that dont have a BJ's

This stuff right here. Its good!

u/banonophone · 1 pointr/hellofresh

It’s so good, I highly recommend making it on your own with whatever % beef you usually would buy. I bought this bulgogi sauce and the flavor is perfect.

u/OneWonderfulFish · 1 pointr/keto

Where I live, Winn Dixie and Publix both carry it. I imagine you could order it from Amazon too. https://www.amazon.com/Raos-Arrabiata-Sauce-Gluten-Free/dp/B00554SJRM/ref=pd_sbs_325_5?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6DA9GRQNQR7SPX1479TN

It's much cheaper in a store, but still a little pricy at $8.99 from what I remember. Still, it lasts a good while. Can usually get 3 or 4 pizza's worth of sauce, and sometimes I make pizza omelettes with it, too.

u/bettorworse · 2 pointsr/traderjoes

It's made with crack, I'm sure of it.

/Available on Amazon - 6 for $44 and free shipping.

u/qooldeluxx_ · 2 pointsr/keto

yes pizza and a coke will definitely kick you out of ketosis and set back your fat adaption. If the pizza is something of a tradition you want to keep up I recommend making a lazy man pizza (low carb tortilla, low carb marinara sauce, pepperoni, and cheeese).

Or if you really want to have closer to real pizza you could make fathead pizza.

u/ohhmyglobb · 1 pointr/1200isplenty

I usually put this on my zoodles because it's only 45 calories for a 1/4 of a cup https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007EC6VV4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wRR5xbD0X1VBV Definitely trying laughing cow cheese next time to see how it is!

u/felinebeeline · 1 pointr/vegan

There's more than one kind of marinara sauce. Is it one of the following?

one

two

I get the tomato basil marinara; that one's safe. Bummer this happened to you; it happens to the best of us.
