There are soaps that are for hand-knit stuff, like Eucalan or Soak that work really well. They seem expensive, but a little goes a long way. Just soak your knitted item in the sink or another container with a few dribbles of either of these, then remove as much water as possible (don't wring as that will stretch the fabric). I usually gently squeeze out excess water, then lay it flat on two towels and roll it up and step on it. Then lay flat to dry.

p.s. They have many different scents, but the lavender Eucalan smells amazing!

If you're willing to experiment you could try alternative methods like castile soap, soapnuts/soapwort, or rye flour. There's tons more. Google "no-poo" hair washing and you get a ton of hits, just disregard anything about baking soda because it's been pretty soundly debunked. Most of them are cheap/accessible.

The downside of "natural" haircare is that it takes a lot of experimentation to find out what works for you. Everything from your diet to your hair type (like I wouldn't recommend using shikakai if you have fair hair, for instance) will affect how one product or another will work for you. You'll also want to know how hard your water is--many non-SLS soaps, like castile soap, will leave soap scum on your hair if you wash in hard water.

I've been using this brand of soap nuts for the past couple weeks. They came in a cotton bag wrapped in paper. They're shipped from Asia, so not the most eco friendly, but they work surprisingly well in my hard water, last forever, and will tide me over until I can grow a soapwort bush, which cleans using the same chemistry.

Hey there! I'm not sure if it's frowned upon for multiple items but I'm definitely struggling this month and could use some help with laundry detergent, deodorant, and peanut butter (random, but we eat a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and peanut butter is expensive).

Yeah it's absolutely true. I have an square Costco-sized laundry detergent jug with four holes cut in the side (which becomes the top), each large enough for the threaded neck of a 1L bottles to fit into it. There's a large piece of shop rag pinned inside to act as a dust/debris filter. I squeeze the original "nozzle" on the end of the bottle to dispense the oil.

I've never paid money for 0w20 synthetic before.

This one exactly, sitting on it's side so that the spot points downwards: https://www.amazon.com/Purex-Liquid-Laundry-Detergent-Mountain/dp/B00M50UBPC

I have used Perwoll Renew Black and Woolite Dark. Both work, but the Perwoll is far superior in my opinion. It’s more expensive, though, so I use it for my “special” dark clothes and the woolite for everything else. You can get it on amazon:

>best care plan for, say, a blanket without special washable yarn

I don't use any yarns are machine washable. I use KnitIQ for everything https://www.amazon.com/KnitIQ-Rinse-Delicate-Liquid-Detergent/dp/B07KB53TVX

The soak works on non-animal fibers as well: I have a few (machine, store bought) shawls that have fringe, making them a nightmare in the washing machine.

Sometimes you can find some good deals over at r/yarnswap. I think there's a de-stash section in ravelry, too.

u/redqueentopawnfour · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I do the same! Amazon has Borax has it for 5¢ per oz if you have Prime vs Oxyclean at 13¢ per oz. I've found it super cheap at Walmart too and it is always less expensive than Oxyclean. Then again, I haven't been inside a Costco in years so I'm guessing they have it closer to wholesale price!

A more experienced lolita I asked suggested I use this laundry detergent for lolita when I asked

Before washing, I would wet a cotton swab, and rub it on any print or colors on your dress. If it runs, might not be a good idea to wash? But if not, hand washing seems like a really safe option.

I hear that steaming clothes would work too? Not too sure about that though, but I often hear it's good for this kinda clothing.

from one busty (36G!) petite keto gal to another, this bra changed my life when i discovered it ~10 years ago. they're expensive af but if you hand-wash with Forever New they'll last years! (i've got 5 and they've all been going strong for about 5+ years now.)

First, this is the ERA I swear by. I don't wash whole loads of laundry with it, I spot treat with it, and then throw it into the regular laundry. Usually let it sit on the spot for a while. I rub it in gently to the pre-wet fabric so that it can really get into the stain.

What I just did was take a gel pen and scribble onto a piece of rayon fabric, and a piece of cotton. Or linen. Not sure what it was. Then I took ERA, and wet the fabric, scrubbed it with my kitchen brush. The pen came right out of the rayon. It mostly came out of the cotton. If I were you I wouldn't have used a blow dryer on the dress, it might have been enough to "set" the ink. But try the ERA. When is the wedding? How much time do you have? Is it cotton?

u/CatFlier · 4 pointsr/AppleWatch

When it gets smelly or dirty I clean it with a small dab of warm soapy water while gently massaging it into the band, rinse it really well, wrap it in a towel and step on it a few times, and then let it air dry.

I am not sure if it is just available in my country, but we have a product called persil black wash. It is brilliant. You just separate your black items into a separate load of laundry and was them with this product. They come out blacker over time and look crisper. I generally don't wash a white load straight after but that is being careful, not because there were problems. The best thing is there is no need to worry about staining.

With the portable models you connect them to a sink faucet, so you can add whatever temperature water you want, and then the drain hose empties the water down the sink or tub, wherever you put it. I suggest a low sudsing soap like charlies liquid soap to avoid the mountain of suds overflowing the sink. There are lots of reviews for different models on youtube with people demonstrating how they hook it up. This was helpful for me to visualize and understand how it worked.

The Haier 2.3 ft model I have has the following settings:

Wash cycles: Heavy Duty, Perm Press, Delicates, Or a Rinse and Spin Only

Temp: Hot, Warm, Cold (But I just hook it up to my sink)

Soil Level: Heavy, Normal Light

Water Level: Super, Large, Medium, Small

It also has buttons for delay start and extra rinse.

Looking to clean my daki using this laundry detergent. Was wondering if its safe to use

u/KrAzYkArL18769 · 41 pointsr/sex

Use a "cold water" detergent like this one. It contains enzymes which are good at breaking down the proteins you're trying to get out.

I've tried quite a few things, and found this works best. Probably the best thing is to not let clothes/towels sit very long after you get home, definitely wash them the same day. This will get most stuff out and will for sure keep odor away if the item doesn't already smell:
https://www.amazon.com/No-Sweat-High-Efficiency-Detergent/dp/B01150VJ3K/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1523194815&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=no%2Bsweat%2Bdetergent&smid=A2996C75Y77H1P&th=1

This will get rid of almost every smell, if you have something really stubborn just use it once at first and then use the No Sweat in the previous link:

I'd really really really like these:

Kindle Case - $12.99

Shampoo - $30.90

Laundry detergent - $19.29

Cat Litter - $15.99

Notecards - $13.99

Yep, those are good.
This one 'Nathan Sportwash" seems a bit cheaper. I've been using it for several years now.

You may not be able to buy it locally, you can still buy Woolite from Amazon.
