You can get these lab coats that are made with knots that substitute for buttons. The knots have a spherical shape; they hold your lab coat very securely, but can be pulled apart in less than a second with deliberate effort. Faster than pulling off a t-shirt, say, and also you can do so with one functional hand if your other became amputated/incapacitated/mangled during the loss-of-control event!

Flame resistance might've helped too. About half of the people in my school use the Bulwark flame-resistant lab coats, and the other half uses other brands. I chose not to use the flame-resistant lab coats because I don't work with fire very often; I find being able to take off my lab coat quickly far more useful as a safety feature.

Also, you can get lab coats that combine both features! Grad students in Bigger, Better Funded University next door wear their chemistry department's custom-made flame-resistant lab coats possessing thicker material and metal buttons that you click together instead of fumble with.

Lab coats are pretty amazing, especially the way they billow out behind you when you walk fast with your lab coat unbuttoned. Useful for getting undergrads to yield right-of-way or asserting your dominance over your coworkers by swishing into their personal space. Also some grad students like putting the name of their owner followed by the word "lab" or "group" on their lab coats. I guess it's to help them find their way back if they ever got lost, pretty nifty.

Amazon is pretty consistent. Work N Gear is good if they have sales. I love these Cherokee pants, about $18 and have lasted me a solid year so far, and still look like new.

But I hate the Cherokee scrub tops, so I pair those pants with Dickies brand tops, they run about $11.

Dickies Unisex V-Neck Scrub Top, Navy, X-Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FYF0DXK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Q-q6Ab3JEH481

I had to do a lot of buying and returning online to find just what I liked, so I hope my info can help you a bit.

I don't know about tops, but I really, really like my Dickies Scrub pants. They're very comfortable, have held up for nearly a year with no sign of wearing down, clean easily, and can be worn in pretty much any situation. They don't really look too specifically like scrubs, so they're versatile.

As for tables, I have an oakworks table. It came with my tuition and it seems a decent quality. I like it, but haven't really shopped around for tables sense I feel more or less set for the moment.

Male nurse here. Love Dickies scrub pants from amazon are amazing! I have about 4 pairs of them and those are definitely all I need. Various tops from Dickies as well

It was actually pretty easy, since my mom used to work as a nurse practicioner she had a plethora of plain white lab coats to choose from. You could find one for cheap on Amazon here.
As for the green, I used a special dye called Rit Dye in a neon green shade, which you can get at Michael’s or here.
Relatively cheap options that give the optimal look.
Happy cosplaying!

'Course! The socks are these ones (which I know look sketchy, but either they're working well for me or I'm suffering from a damn good placebo effect). The watch is this one (or, sort of. the watch itself is the same, but it has a velcro strap -- which is unexpectedly super helpful), and the scrubs are these (top and bottom) -- they've got the right amount and placement of pockets, they're comfortable, they come in a buttload of colours.

u/agent_of_entropy · 4 pointsr/minimalism

Yep. When I first got into the medical field I was like "I'm not wearing these, it's like wearing pajamas in public." Now I'm all "It's like wearing pajamas in public!" They're comfortable and they wear well. I've still got the first pair of scrubs I bought over 6 years ago and still wear them. Mostly around the house, but I could wear them to work if I had to. I recommend Dickie's Generation Flex Youtility Scrubs. Tops, bottoms.

u/SarcasticBassMonkey · 0 pointsr/Nurse

Shoes: I wear my Doc Martens. I have 3 pairs that I rotate through so they have time to breathe and reduce foot funk. Each pair has gel inserts (Dr Scholl's I think?).

Scrubs: I swear by my dickies for bottoms and tops. I've tried various brands, these are the ones I like best.

Stethoscope: I haven't needed more than the disposable ones on the unit in 5 years of behavioral health. Been in the ER for 6 months, think I've needed a good stethoscope 3 times (2 asthmatics, 3rd time for bowel sounds on an obstruction).

Edit: clarified statement to reflect needing more than disposable stethoscope

>no one looks good in them, even the expensive branded ones

Just looked up Koi scrubs and it fits pretty good, maybe you're just used to seeing out of shape medical professionals?

They’re Med Couture performance scrubs I got from amazon. They’re actually really awesome!

u/alethalcombination · 2 pointsr/nursing

Sorry, NOT Cherokee. Landau. That's the brand our company goes with for our scrubs. I don't love these as a woman but my co-worker (male) has the same ones and loves them. They are RN33489, Style 8555. I'm 6 '4" 180lb. I just bought landu in mens cargo scrub in medium long, works awesome. http://www.amazon.com/Landau-8555-Mens-Cargo-Pant/dp/B00CIOX4YK/ref=pd_sim_a_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=0FD43C8P6SEAMGFYYE8P

Just to add to this, since I've stuck with Dickie's in the past out of habit. I recently got their newer scrubs from the EDS line. They're well built and have a zipper fly, belt loops, and cargo pockets. However they do run smaller than some of their older scrub, especially the tops. The pants aren't quite as baggy. They're a different material, which I prefer. However, the colours will be off if you mix them with different cotton/polyester proportions.

u/iBrhom · 6 pointsr/medicalschool

This lab coat in 52 is about as large as you can get, and okabe cosplayer approved. https://www.amazon.com/Landau-Mens-Full-Length-Scrub-Coat/dp/B002RN129G?th=1&psc=1

BAM!

Or similar. I like this one.
So cheap I could almost justify buying a new one instead of washing it.
