Cotton rope is often omitted in the community but is probably the best choice for beginners, its cheaper than hemp, sometimes cheaper than nylon and holds knots just as well as hemp. Midori even endorses its use in her beginners workshops.

As long as you don't get it wet its a phenomenally good material for everything but suspensions. Its lightweight, hypoallergenic, easy to wash, can be dyed super easy and is allot less harsh then hemp or jute. The trick is to get a 3 strand twisted 100% cotton rope without a filler so that you don't run into problems.

I sell some on my site, both dyed pretty colors and just the nice white natural look. You can probably get some from a local hardware store or online if you look hard enough, usually a 5 mm (3/16") diameter rope is the most diverse but you can get the rope from anywhere 4mm (1/6") - 50 mm (2").

A quick Amazon search lead me to a 50 foot length of Cotton 3 strand twisted rope for $12.00 and while you're at it you might as well get a pair of safety shears for less then $3 that you can use in an emergency .

A good way to figure out what type you like is to go to events and interact and ask people if you can feel the ropes they have, that way you get a real sense of what the different rope types are like without having to put in a investment that you might regret.

Play safe and have fun :D

I taught protest first aid for years and helped get several street medic collectives off the ground.

Bulk medical supplies generally don't make sense unless you're willing to buy in serious bulk. I'm talking like a case of 50 boxes with 2,000 gauze pads each. At that point prices start dropping below what you'd pay if you just bought them straight out retail but unless you're stocking a hospital or other medical unit, you aren't going to use the supplies that fast.

For the most part, best way to go about it is to make a list of everything you need/want in a medical kit tailored to your expected needs and then shop around to find the best deal. I've ordered off Amazon before, I've bought stuff in person at medical supply places, it just depends who has the best deal.

Pre-built kits are almost always more expensive than building it yourself and about 80% of the time you're paying a huge markup for supplies that cost maybe a few dollars. There are good pre-built medical kits out there but you're still paying a premium for someone else to build it for you. Plus you'll be getting supplies you may not need in which case it's wasted money.

We used to divide things up into "hard" and "soft" supplies.

Hard supplies were things that we could afford to cut corners on if we had to and could buy from whoever had the lowest price; bags, medical tape, glucose tablets (we used candy), q-tips, cotton balls, alcohol swabs, etc.

Soft supplies were things that had to be bought from a reputable supplier and were considered critical for providing the right care; bandages, sterile gauze, antibacterial gel, gloves, masks, etc.

Hard supplies can usually be ordered from other, non-medical sources and repurposed to fit the need. For example, we bought cotton swabs from a craft supplier. They were intended for crafting use but they were clean and cheap so we used that.

AliExpress is a good source for hard supplies. Most of the time they sell the exact same thing that you can get domestically but they're selling it a lot cheaper.

Oh how I wish we'd had access to AliExpress during Occupy. Do note that shipping from China takes a while.

Soft supplies are trickier but are almost always cheaper online. You can sometimes set up a small scale bulk purchase with a local medical supply place but with the internet this isn't as feasible as it used to be. Order a single set of what you want, look at it, make sure it meets your standards, and then place a bigger order when you're sure you've got what you want.

Also be sure to check any expiration dates on what you get. Sometimes these things sit for a while and for something like bandages it doesn't matter as much, you really want to pay attention to it when it comes to things like antibacterial gel.

I'm a big fan of PSS, and they had a big part in motivating me to actually lose weight, but I didn't want to go to a plant-based diet like them, and I'd learned by that point that calories were really all that mattered, so I didn't read Presto. I am interested to read Ray's book though, if it ever gets published. I know others have already told you, but it really doesn't matter a lot when or how you get your calories, just how many you consume per day vs. how many you burn. I lost weight in the past on Body For Life, which also involved exercising 6 days per week and eating 5-6 small meals per day. It worked, but it wasn't a sustainable lifestyle for me long term, and after successfully reaching 200 pounds, I gained weight over the next 9 years until I was 290. This time around, I wanted to lose in a way that represented a realistic way for me to eat long term. And it's worked. It sounds like you're on board with that advice. Just focus on how many calories you eat overall (MyFitnessPal is helpful with that) and how many you burn (I use a Fitbit with heart rate monitor, but www.tdeecalculator.net can give you a starting point.)

As for body fat, I recommend getting a set of cheap calipers. I use these for $6.29. It's not perfect, and it takes some time to get your technique down to something consistent. Personally, I measure myself weekly, using a 3 site formula, and I measure each site 5 times and take the average. I still am not convinced that the number I get is accurate, but it seems to reliably show improvements week over week. What I mean by that is I don't know if I'm 15% or 17%, but I am confident that I was 2% higher a month ago. As long as my skin fold measurements are dropping, I know I'm losing fat.

I've done no weight training and not a ton of cardio during my weight loss. It's been almost entirely diet. Still, I haven't lost much lean mass, and it looks like I'll hit my body fat goals at a higher weight than expected. If I decide to work out more later, I definitely won't be doing it at the intensity you are. I'm not an expert, but my (limited) experience and what I've read tell me that, at least as a beginner, you can get most of the benefit out of only a few intense workouts. When lifting, you should be working a muscle group just about to failure, then giving it several days to recover before working it again. Even on cardio, I seem to improve my performance faster if I do high intensity interval work, then allow 3-5 days for recovery. If your goal is just calorie burn, then heavy volume is probably fine for that, but I'd rather eat a little less and just work out hard 1-2x/week, with maybe some walking or light bicycling another day or two.

That's my workout approach, which doesn't mean it's best for everyone. But, whatever approach you take, consider what is sustainable for the long term. You can follow a strict, aggressive plan, and it will work, but if you just quit and go back to your "normal" diet and lifestyle when your done, you'll just put the weight back on like I did. Give some thought to what you will do after you reach your goal, and then consider if you might want to transition to that now if you find your current workout volume overwhelming.

u/pcadrian · 3 pointsr/ketogains

It all depends what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to maximize muscle building, you are better off doing less reps (4-6 range) with a higher weight.

Your approach is excellent if you are not too concerned with maximizing your muscle growth, but are more focused on burning fat. A year ago I was on a program that had me lifting lighter weights in the 10-12 rep range, while doing supersets (2 exercises back to back, it was very HIIT oriented), and it was extremely effective in helping me burn fat. It was a lot of fun doing it too.

I think following what you're doing now is good, and will get you results. Once you get at a lower bodyfat percentage, you can always switch your routine and train for muscle growth.

I recommend you start keeping track of your calories, even temporarily just to give you an idea of where you are with your meals. MyFitnessPal (and the app) is great, and the ketogains calculator was extremely accurate for me. Also, get a bodyfat caliper and measuring tape. I use this caliper and it's quite cheap and accurate, and or the tape I got this. If you start building muscle and losing fat, the scale won't be a good indicator of your progress. Keep consistent track of your measurements, like a weekly log, and take them at the same time of day (I do it in the morning after going to the bathroom).

I'm not one for filling huge pockets with stuff and we're required to have enough of the standard bits and pieces but there's two extra things I've found that I love:

Snapit ampoule opener - not necessary but personal deficiencies mean I've never managed 100% ampoule opening success by hand and this thing does it perfectly every time, is small and durable, ideal for EMS use. Obvciously no point if not using glass amps but I no longer hate metoclopramide now because of this thing.

Batclp - leather steth clip that feels like something you'd hold a gun with or something, very durable and simple but the only product I can find that works so well and is so simple. Handmade and a bit pricey much like the snapit but the best way to keep a steth neat and attached to something I can find.

A quality steth is the standard gift and there's a lot of Littmann Classic IIs in daily use that have rattled around ambulances for decades since someone left training school.

I really do pose her like a doll sometimes as foreplay. I've also recently discovered a great love for artistically arranged rope; I recommend a visit to the Two Knotty Boys website and a trip to Lowe's / Home Depot (AKA your friendly neighborhood pervertables shop) for some extra rope if the handcuffs don't work for you. I've had good results with 3/8" braided nylon, although I rather buy it in bags and cut it myself than buy it in lengths off the spool because they don't treat their rope very kindly.

Mostly I just had to get myself in the mindset that it's OK to 'use' her in this context. You can still be 50/50 in the rest of your relationship while being 100% in control in bed. The gentlemanly thing to do, of course, is to establish some boundaries as to what you both do and don't like, which it sounds like you're doing already. Also, a safe word can be useful even when you're not playing nonconsensual scenes. Our safe word is just "safeword", it helps light a fire under my ass to get her out of the rope quickly, rather than just "Ow" or "Stop" which tend to act more like "yellow words" for us.

Always, always, always have good scissors nearby when you're playing with rope, even if it's just a wrist tie. I bought these EMT shears when I started to get into it.

As others have said, credit cards work great, so do razor blades to hold the detent pins down (cheaper than the $8 on this pin which im sure works great - but this pin could 'save' you money if you shoot the detent and spring off and cant find them)

Warning wall of text from a comment I made to someone else in your position, ill have changes at the bottom since I made this comment 3 or 4 months ago:

As others have said its really easy even if you have no experience, there are plenty of youtube videos for resources. An AR is by far the easiest firearm to work on. I started off in your position a few years ago hesitant to mod and now I barrel my own ARs, its addictive and very easy with the hardest part spending money on tools but deals can be had. Lots of great resources out there as well dont let it intimidate you - heres a wall of text of some tools you might want to consider if you're looking to assemble stripped lowers or do minor gun work.

I purchased this set of punches for less than $7 a few years ago looking to do the same as you but being on a college budget. You'll definitely want brass but steel/'chrome' punches have their place (peening roll pins). This is far from the "perfect" set and is chinesium but 4 AR builds, many other firearm disassembles (stripping 3+ glocks, 4+ M&P Pros as well as a couple Rugers to bare frame then back again) and 4+ years later they are still holding up (punches will bend, you can bend them back, especially the small ones, if they get deformed from striking you can file/sand them flat again) but if you have extra cash/are willing to spend more there are many options out there that are oriented towards gunsmithing specifically, I didnt have the money at the time for them and will wait until these give out or I come across something they wont work with before I purchase something else.

You may also want to look into a roll pin starting punch if you are building ARs (or anything that uses roll pins)

But I find Hemostat Forceps to work excellently for roll pins ('pinch' the pin in them, get it started, remove forceps and use punch) (you will not need this for installing a trigger, only roll pins such as a bolt catch)

Also if you're striking punches dont use a regular hammer (chips into your eyes arent good) I use a Nylon Hammer like this

There are other things for barreling such as torque wrenches and vices etc. but the above will allow you to assemble a stripped AR lower and have many other applications for gun work. Good luck any questions dont hesitate to ask.

Changes - I ended up buying the roll pin installer for the trigger guard (totally not necessary but saves time) and I killed all those punches after years of faithful service while in the current process of building an AK. But I highly recommend the hemostat forceps for the roll pin on the bolt catch. Assembling an AR might seem intimidating but you can totally do it, any questions totally ask

Everyone has some rolls when they sit down. If you really want to get an objective look on what your BF% is, invest in some cheap skinfold calipers. They measure how much fat by the actual thickness of your skin in millimeters, and this pair comes with a handy guide that helps you convert those numbers into BF%. Skinfold calipers are great to have not just for seeing progress on cuts, but also to help you quantify lean muscle gain vs fat gains on bulks. For 15 bucks, it's totally worth it.

As to advice for what to do, cardio and diet. Specific advice for cardio, duration matters more than intensity when it comes to losing weight. Get your heart rate up to at least 50% of its maximum, and keep it there. You don't need to be running a 6 minute mile, jog at a comfortable pace and do it for 30 minutes a day. As long as you hit your protein requirements, you won't see any loss in your sweet gainz, they'll just be revealed for the world to see.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/BDSMcommunity

If she just wants to be restrained, I would consider something like a pair of cuffs with straps on them that you can tie to the bed. They're relatively inexpensive and good for starting out.

If she specifically wants rope, start by buying a set of EMT Shears. These are so that if something bad happens you can get out of them immediately. Make sure that any time you play with rope you have them nearby.

Next, go visit Twisted Monk and check out their basic instructional videos. It'll provide a few good ties to consider. Also check online and with Youtube.

Finally go buy some rope! The most recommended rope I've encountered is 3/8" braided nylon rope. It's easy to use, thick, and nylon is fairly comfortable. 5/16" is also a good size. Twisted Monk has a video on how the different sizes work. In terms of material nylon is cheap, easy to clean, and reasonably comfortable. Hemp is the traditional material. Here's a guide on bondage rope that I found.

If you haven't purchased it yet, "Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns!" is a great book to learn about BDSM.

look on amazon, between the item description and the "questions ask/answered" section regarding the product, i have seen some where this information is provided. 0.1ml is the amount delivered from one i saw i believe.

-

I recommend this one... it's 30ml but EASILY fits into your pocket.

-

the glass one here is much better then the plastic one from the same company, and i'm relatively sure it delivers 0.1ml per squirt

-

To make sure, simply fill it with an amount of water measured using an oral syringe (available for free at almost all pharmacys, just ask the pharmacist, say that your little brother got some medicine that requires one for measurement and needs it... though i prefer ones with a long blunt tip, available on amazon as well [here's the 10ml ones i often use and love] (https://www.amazon.com/Duda-Energy-Syringepk010-Industrial-Syringes/dp/B00DXPRTHG/ref=nav_ya_signin?ie=UTF8&qid=1467798872&sr=8-2&keywords=10+ml+blunt+tip+syringe&)

and [here's some 1ml ones] (https://www.amazon.com/Duda-Energy-Syringepk001-Industrial-Syringes/dp/B00NDETMR2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467798956&sr=8-1&keywords=1ml+blunt+tip+syringe) that i got but haven't tried yet, they reviewed well though

I'm not an expert on the bulk/cut cycle, but I don't think it's impossible, just easier to do separately. I've lost weight VERY slowly, but I know I've built muscle/strength in my shoulders and arms over the past 6 months. Whether this is the same thing or not, I don't know.

These are calipers. They measure bodyfat percentages.

Here were the directions I was given to use them: (instructions courtesy of /u/theycallhimhellcat )

Measure on the right side of the body:
measure the skin between the nipple and the arm pit (diagonal)
measure the skin by pinching belly button and to one side (horizontal)
measure the skin in the middle of my thigh (vertically)

To measure, you just grab skin with your right hand and pinch, place the caliper about 1/2 inch away from your pinch, and close it till it pops into place. Add up the 3 measurements and plug it in to a calculator and you get your BF%.

I just read your posts below about wanting to gain muscle without actually bulking heavily. With your scoliosis, I think the yoga would help a lot because it focuses on spinal strength and stability. If you get into lifting, the advice I was given for that is lighter weights, more repetitions. You build strength and definition, but not bulk.

u/Hellbilly_Slim · 1 pointr/ems

I personally have an olive drab 'Rip Away EMT Pouch' from Condor. I work seasonally for the US Forest Service and we are encouraged to keep a small first aid kit with us, I wanted something small that I could stick on the side of my line gear, here is a side profile of the pouch as well.

On the inside I keep some very basic stuff, gloves, a few 4x4s/3x3s/2x2s, a few small bandage rolls and bandaids, a small roll of kling and tape, a thing of quikclot, an icepack, an elastic swat-t tourniquet, cpr faceshield, alcohol preps, an antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream, some blister pads and moleskin and a small bottle of eye wash. I also have this pill organizer stuck in there where I keep some basic OTC meds like ibuprofen, tylenol, asprin, immodium, benadryl, acid reducers, and motion sickness pills. I also have a rolled up sam splint I pack that won't fit in my pouch.

It feels excessive to me sometimes for a 'first aid' kit, but when we are way out in the backcountry away from help I am glad I have it. And I like having a little extra (especially the OTC meds) because there is always someone on the crew who didn't pack anything, and I like to help em out until we get back to camp. I also keep it with me during the off season if I go hiking or camping with friends.

As far as flashlights go, I think I saw it here on r/ems but someone recommended the Cree 7W 300LM Mini LED and holy hell are they awesome, plus at $2.31 a piece they are a steal. Solid body, sturdy metal clip, and runs on a single AA battery. I have like 15 of these things, I keep them in all my vehicles, backpacks, tool drawers, etc. I keep one in my pants when I am at work as well.

u/nursewords · 3 pointsr/CRNA

haha I second the ultra fine tip sharpies!! They are essential! Some of the stuff I've gotten along the way were cute/funny badge holders (retractable), scrub hats, nice stethoscope (if she doesn't have one already)/steth holder - after using and hating many of the plastic ones I finally sprung for the leather batclip and I love it (as a student you always have to have your steth on you while walking around and you have to have your hands free)

This book was like gold to me doing peds cases.

For classroom, a lot of people in my class, including me, used these. They write really smooth and fine and all the colors are useful in notes - especially with things like anatomy. She'll need an endless supply of computer paper. I used a good many index cards (ruled).

Good luck to you! It's a very difficulty journey. Try your best to not take things too personally and prepare yourself for a lot less quality time together. It's very difficult to explain it to someone on the outside, but this program actually fundamentally changed me as a person. It hardens you. It's not a bad thing necessarily, but I often think that I'm not the same person that my husband fell in love with!! We stuck it out together and are as happy as ever, but there are definitely plenty of relationships and marriages that don't survive this - so be ready to fight for it!

u/gogosolar · 4 pointsr/fountainpens

Unfortunately, yes you did purchase a fountain pen with calligraphy nibs, however the 'fine' nib will work well for regular fountain pen writing as I have done in past, and still occasionally do. I hope the points below help you out. Generally, the wider the nib, the more ink it will lay down on the paper, the longer it will take to dry and be smudge resistant. Maybe someone else can address the cartridge cost, they can be refilled with a Blunt tip syringe and any regular bottled fountain pen ink or you can get a cartridge converter.

Remember that fountain pens typically use a much lighter pressure on the paper than most ballpoint pens do, so that might be part of the problem with pen laying down too much ink. The paper you use can make a large difference for how fast the ink dries - the shinier the paper, the longer it takes to absorb, and using an Inkjet printer paper seems to make the ink take longer to dry vs laser printer paper. Some papers will actually 'bleed' the ink all the way through the page (and pull much more ink out of the paper, like a blotting paper - but this is trial and error until you find one you like at the price you like as well.)

I might suggest following link from under Useful Information on the right pane of r/fountainpens for General tips for left-handed FP users along with the other links there.

There is also a whole lot of helpful hints and tips in the right hand pane of r/handwriting under Helpful resources, which I have copied/pasted below.

Kanthal is typically used and will be your most commonly seen wire. I only know of Gplat as an alternative (I used it... not worth the price increase IMO) I get mine from Amazon, I originally started with 28 gauge, then a buddy let me borrow his 26 gauge, that was good too. I purchased some 24 gauge and it drains my batteries hard (which is why I want a dual box mod.)

Yes, a mod is the housing. Then you will need your atomizer and battery.

I started dripping with the IGO-w atty with the Smok Magneto Mod. Biggest problem I had with it is it was small and i had to drill the air holes. I still use the Magneto.

I would never suggest tank anything. I tried both the genuine and the clone russian 91% and it was a terrible experience.

So, for a beginner getting into dripping I would suggest these parts:

[Plum Veil Atomizer] (http://www.eciggity.com/plume-veil-clone-by-tobeco/) (Note! I have not bought anything from this site.)

ANY single battery 18650 mechanical mod. They all realistically do the same thing. RipTrippers.com does a lot of reviews, they should be able to point you in the right direction. I do however suggest one with a magnetic fire button instead of spring. (It will lower resistance and last longer because springs are weaker than magnets)

Atleast 2 [18650 Sony batteries] (http://www.myvaporstore.com/SONY_VTC5_18650_2600mAh_Battery_Flat_Top_30A_p/sny65026-f.htm)

Charger I chose the two battery one for money purposes but I suggest the 4 since it's only like $5 more and can charge a myriad of batteries

[These clamp things] (http://www.amazon.com/5-5-KELLY-Hemostat-FORCEPS-Straight/dp/B000QWK174/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1414788271&sr=8-6&keywords=medical+clamps) makes building much easier

I use these but a lot of people use nailclippers

[Wire] (http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Lightning-Vapes-Kanthal-Resistance/dp/B00JVXVKB0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1414788396&sr=8-2&keywords=28+gauge+kanthal+wire) either 28 or 26 gauge is what I would recommend.

Cotton Balls

[Ohm Tester] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MBNCOMG/ref=s9_simh_gw_p328_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0J7AHRP45YSC4DHAS7DB&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846)

Drill bits, allen keys or screwdriver to wrap coils around (i usually use Allen Keys)

Another Screwdriver for you builds

Tweezers are nice for accurate adjustments

Some people suggest a torch.... it's a waste of money for most builds. The main idea behind them is they are used to burn off any chemicals on the wire... but when you are done building you just fire it a few times before you put cotton in them and it does the same thing. Some builds need a more flexible wire... that is the only time you will need it.

Note: I 100% support the use of Clones, especially when you are starting out your vape life. They save so much money and do an adequate (if not better) job of most authentics.

Every attending I've seen uses the otoscope or ophthalmoscope light, which usually fits in with the exam they are doing. Seems pointless to buy one, plus you can by a 6 pack of penlights for 5 bucks, or use your cell phone's light.

A good steth is probably best gift.

However, shears are easily second best, they are unbelievably helpful and no one ever has a pair, especially the kind that you can use as a wrench for caps that are on too tight. Just my two cents

u/Once-Bitten · 1 pointr/Dentistry

This made me cringe. Don't stick stuff in your sockets, like, ever. You may not be in pain anymore but there is still serious healing going on in there. Did you not have a post-op appointment? You don't want to leave debris in there and definitely want to irrigate each time you eat because you're not at risk for dry socket anymore but you can still cause an infection. I would call the OS or Dentist that performed the extraction or purchase dental syringes on Amazon because you need that curved tip. I'm a month out and still irrigating. This is gross, but, if I'm at my mother's house for dinner and have nothing to irrigate with I use her kitchen sink sprayer.

Sticking non-sterile objects in your extraction sites is the worst advice ever. You're not even close to being healed and you could really do some damage. And you should definitely be brushing your gums at the surgical sites at two weeks. If you haven't, you've got two weeks worth of junk built up back there. Keep it super clean at all times and please, for the love of all that is holy, keep things out of it.

In the mean time, I will post my workaround for this.

http://www.amazon.com/Monoject-Curved-412-Syringes-5pcs/dp/B007Y8230G

It doesn't QUITE reach the very bottom of the bottle but the curved tip makes it so you can tip the bottle and get to the edges. It's a little tough to draw the plunger but a little pull and hold and you will see the liquid suck up the syringe. And then the curved tip makes it easy to get around cartos in tanks or around posts in clearos. I LOVE it.

Oh and I just got my bottles from TVC. I can't WAIT to try them. Speed steeping is still so LONG when you're waiting to taste some new flavors. But it's given me time to decide which of the 9 flavors I will try.

Otherwise that 6ml bottle with TVC label is one of the BEST looking bottles I've seen out there in that form factor. Props to the Chef.

Certain kinds of bondage definitely make me feel safe and snug. I like being tied together (as opposed to being tied down, or being tied with my limbs apart - that makes me feel exposed). I feel this way when I'm wearing a rope dress, and also when I'm in a straight jacket. I think a lot of people feel safe in bondage. It's been shown that dogs feel calmer when they have a compression jacket on - sometimes people are the same way. We like to be wrapped up and snug.

Please be careful when you experiment by yourself. It would be a shame if you tied yourself into something that you can't get out of! It would be a waste to cut all that pretty rope, but please keep a pair of EMT scissors on hand just in case.

NovaFerrum comes in both a raspberry grape flavor and a chocolate flavor, and seems to be the easiest to tolerate.

If you use a medifrida pacifier to administer it, it should go past the back of her tongue, which helps. You can also use a disposable syringe each time instead of re-using the medifrida one, which makes it WAY easier - you only have to rinse out the pacifier part, and the disposable syringes fit just as well into the pacifier hole.

If you do the syringe+pacifier combo, and give it to her riiiiiiiiiiight before a feed when she’s already hungry, she may be able to gulp it down without really noticing. You can even chase it with an extra syringe of milk/formula to help push it through the pacifier and get the taste off her tongue before transitioning to the bottle/breast, if she tends to refuse her feeds after tasting the iron. That’s been the winning combo for us!

In a mass casualty situation, I would completely ignore anyone that needed CPR and focus on the bleeders. The time you spend giving one person CPR could be used stabilizing a dozen people who are bleeding.

For extremities, the most useful thing is a tourniquet. I prefer one with a windlass like a [CAT] (https://www.amazon.com/C--Combat-Application-Tourniquet-GENERATION/dp/B018R73OWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468623443&sr=8-1&keywords=gen+7+cat+tourniquet) or [SOFTT] (https://www.amazon.com/Tac-Med-Solutions-SOFTT-W-Tourniquet/dp/B00E3W3BK2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1468623620&sr=8-2&keywords=sof-t) over a [TK4] (https://www.amazon.com/H-Associates-TK4-Tourniquet/dp/B003YHGKF0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468623679&sr=8-1&keywords=tk4+tourniquet) or [SWAT] (https://www.amazon.com/SWAT-T-Tourniquet-Black-1-Count/dp/B003IWNOVO/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468623735&sr=8-2&keywords=swat+tourniquet).

For injuries to the abdomen, armpit, crotch, or neck; you will want a homeostatic agent. [Combat Gauze] (https://www.amazon.com/QuickClot-Combat-Gauze-Z-Fold/dp/B001E1CLTC/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468623859&sr=8-1&keywords=combat+gauze) is the way to go here, it is much better than powdered QuickClot.

For penetrating chest trauma (also called 'sucking chest wounds'), you need a large, occlusive bandage on both the entry and exit. In clinical testing of chest seals, the [Halo] (https://www.amazon.com/Progressive-Medical-Performance-Occlusive-Dressing/dp/B003VSORKC/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468624256&sr=8-3&keywords=chest+seal) and [Hyfin] (https://www.amazon.com/North-American-Rescue-Hyfin-Chest/dp/B00KQS2NGK/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468624483&sr=8-1&keywords=hyfin) drastically outperformed the [Asherman] (https://www.amazon.com/Rusch-Inc-849100-Asherman-Chest/dp/B0015TE9N4/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468624546&sr=8-2&keywords=asherman+chest+seal).

I also personally have a [decompression needle] (http://www.rescue-essentials.com/h-h-needle-decompression-kit-tpak/) to treat tension pneumothorax, but I advise you not to get it unless you have specific training on it.

For general bleeding the [Israeli bandage] (https://www.amazon.com/Israeli-Bandage-Shipped-Israel-Inches/dp/B00JKMPJBY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1468625201&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=israeli+bandage&psc=1) is way better than other bandages.

You will also want an [NPA] (https://www.amazon.com/Nasopharyngeal-Airway-Fr-9-3mm-Surgilube/dp/B003950R2E/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1468625347&sr=8-1&keywords=nasal+pharyngeal+airway) to help keep an open airway.

Edit, I forgot that you are also going to want a good pair of [trauma shears] (https://www.amazon.com/Madison-Supply-Premium-Fluoride-Scissors/dp/B00YFG1U86/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468625730&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=trauma+shears&psc=1).

My LO is only three months, but my SIL with a 4 year old and 22 month old suggested I invest now in an ear scope like this one so that you can take a peek at home and if you see inflammation take him in to the doctor. If not, then you can feel more assured that he doesn't have an ear infection and he's just dealing with a cold, and since a cold is a virus all you can do is treat the symptoms anyway you're already doing what you can. She said it was also really useful for teething - one of her sons would only have a fever with an ear infection so this helped her know if his fever was an ear infection or teething.

Personally, as a nurse myself, I don't carry a knife while at the hospital, but instead trauma shears and maybe a pry bar like a Gerber Shard. I haven't run into a situation yet that the shears or the pry bar haven't able to do and it isn't as intimidating to patients or visitors.

However if you do need a small knife, just like everyone else suggests, the Dragonfly 2 is exceptional.

I have the ZDP-189 version of the Dragonfly and it is perfect for EDC.

If you looking for an even smaller folder check out the Manbug which also does come in a [ZDP-189 variant]

Some people swear by the skin prep stuff, others seem to have a reaction to it like I did. It's one of those things that's worth trying definitely, but if you have skin issues, it's a likely source of the problem.

I use the Opsite Flexifix around the edges of my sensor (so the white part of the sensor) to secure it. It will start to peel after a few days, especially if your sensor is in a location where it rubs. I just trim the peeling parts and put new Opsite around the edges.

For covering the sensor when I want it more waterproof, I use a large Tegaderm patch, which is a bit more substantial than Opsite.

Opsite is the best stuff. It's very light and breathable, so should not cause irritation.

Yes, ladies are natorious for holding water weight. It is pretty common for women to start a weight loss routine, not see any change in the scale for a month, then quit out of discouragement.

I'm a dude and I can swing 5 lbs in a day easy. Salty food, stress, hormones, carbs, activity level all lead to fluctuations is water weight. I finally bought a cheap skin fold measurement device because watching the scale was so stressful. Even waist measurements can fluctuate an inch in a day. Skin folds are very consistent.

You don't have to calculate your body fat percentage, just keep track of the measurements.

I think you are doing awesome! You are obviously very dedicated. Don't get too frustated, you will get there. Like the rest of us it just takes tinkering and figuring out.

I would track you calories over the next week and report back what you find. You want to make sure you are not undereating as well as overeating. Undereating can lead to heavy water retention due to stress - I'm concerned this may be your situation.

How is your mood? Do you feel tired or energetic? Are you sleeping well?

Also, a super important aspect of bondage rope play: SAFETY!

Do not engage in rope play unless you have at least 1 or more pairs of EMT shears (medical trauma scissors) handy. These are cheap. You can order them online on Amazon or generally find them in most pharmacies or local medical supply stores. These kinds of scissors have safety tips and are designed to rapidly cut through clothing and other obstructions (like rope).

Your dosing is correct, same as I have.

I ordered these syringes from Amazon that are 1ml and can measure up to .01ml accurately. I take around .03ml to a little over .05ml at a time and can dose that quite accurately, and my personal results agree, a very mellow, not drunken dazey sort of high at this dosage.

Once I started this ratio I'll never go back, won't have to ever buy PG again haha. Maybe go down to 1mg/7.5ml or so just to give a bit more wiggle room with dosage but the syringes are very nice and sturdy, don't fluctuate the oral syringes I'd used before, and it comes with 10 if you need extras! Pick em up and you're good to go my man.

Honestly, I don't get to check it very often because he won't let me. He's fine when a doctor does it but I can barely put it in before he swats me away. The one I got has a little picture chart to compare to, so that was nice. I think they key is to do it semi often, even when they're not sick, so you get some practice and know what it's supposed to look like and the kiddos get used to it. Tomorrow at some point, tell him that you need to talk to him as soon as he has time. I don't know if you guys live together, live close by or what your situation is. But tell him that you need to talk at his earliest conveniance. Don't take no for an answer, unless he has a really good reason, like work or something. Don't let him smoke beforehand, that might not let him comprehend the seriousness of the conversation. As far as what to say to him during the conversation, that's up to you. But really stress the fact that you're there for him and that for the relationship to work, if something is going on then he needs to be open with you about it. Quite frankly if he is pulling away from you and isn't willing to be open with you about his health/personal life then maybe the relationship isn't as serious as you might think it is. And maybe you need to rethink things. And by things, i mean your relationship with him.

But have the talk first, maybe all it takes is a little reassurance that you are there to help him.

Also in regards to the blood pressure thing, if the doctor prescribed blood pressure medication, then it's serious enough that he needs to take it. As an EMT(and paramedic intern) I can safely say that taking a blood pressure is easy enough to do. If you care enough about him, and have a few bucks saved up, go spend 50 bucks on buying a cheap blood pressure cuff and a cheap stehoscope and learn to take his blood pressure yourself. It takes about 45-60 seconds and is super easy. if I can do it you can, as a matter of fact, if you go that route, msg me and I'll teach you. Or you can spend a bit more and get an in-home automatic blood pressure machine. But seriously, high blood pressure is not something you want to ignore.

You can use a caliper to ballpark it, or you can find a scale that will tell you your approximate body fat percentage. I personally use the Fitbit Aria Scale.

I also carry a Fitbit One with me wherever I go. The Fitbit gives a pretty good estimate of the number of calories I burn each day just walking around doing stuff, and I can add in the calorie burn from my workouts on the Fitbit website as well. I keep track of everything I eat on the site too, so I can see exactly how much I'm eating vs how much I'm burning.

From my personal experience, I thought counting calories or macros was unnecessary, a pain in the ass, whatever, and that I could just 'eyeball' it and I'd be fine. Truth is I actually had no clue how much I was eating and how many calories I was burning each day. I was way overestimating my burn and underestimating my consumption. I was lifting and getting bigger, but I was putting on fat too.

You might want to look into doing a Leangains cut, a lot of people seem to get great results from it. Start reading here: http://rippedbody.jp/english/introduction-english/

EDIT: Also, have a look at this image:

http://files.builtlean.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/body-fat-percentage-men.jpg

See where you fit along that spectrum and it may give you some idea of where you are and where you want to be.

EDIT 2: I think you're also doing way too many reps on the bench. Shoot for 4 sets in the 8-10 rep range. If you want some size to your muscles, stay away from high reps. If your goal is pure strength, up the weight and drop down to about 5 reps per set.

u/Sgt_45Bravo · 2 pointsr/knots

Excellent points. You don't really want a knot that will tighten around a limb, that can get dangerous pretty fast.

As far as scissors go, I recommend a pair of paramedic shears. They're great at not poking the skin.

If you want to make some juice you have menthol or "cool" feeling it's pretty easy.

Get some Koolada and Menthol (PG Suspension) from The Flavor Apprentice and a couple of 1ml and 10ml syringes.

Measure out 10ml of juice you want to mentholize and add 0.5% by vol of either koolada or menthol. So you'll add 10*0.005 = 0.05ml of flavor. Shake extremely well and test (ideally in a dripper so you don't use much to throw off the %), if it's not mentholy/cool enough for you add 0.05ml more.

Once you know how strong to make it just scale up the 10ml addition.

This can be pretty subjective and without peeling the fat off your body and measuring it there's no way to know 100%. That being said there's a few things you can do to get a general idea.

First, you can compare yourself to some of the pictures out there and try to guess where you fit in. Example

Another option is to get some calipers and measure yourself. I've had these recommended to me and they seem to work pretty well.

At the very least, you can get calipers or a tape measure and keep track of trends, even if you don't have your exact bf%.

If you want a basic template to follow for a woman:

  • Cut to 20% body fat, bulk to 25% body fat, repeat, taking 3-4 months in each phase (weight changing ~ 1 lb per week).

Log your weight & body fat (caliper) weekly to stay on track. If you get sick of that process, insert some months of eating at maintenance in between.

You could start out by just cycling between 120-132 lbs for a couple of years, but it would be best to have a caliper & do it based on those readings.

Grand total 53.55 (60.24 if you want the steristrips plus this will leave you with extra for additional FAK's). Now if you wanted to get fancy and add in the combat gauze/quickclot, that's where you'll spend some change. TBH though a good pressure dressing (properly applied) is going to do pretty damn well for most people's uses.

I got everything separately.. Now I know I should have gotten my flavors and nicotine from wizard labs, but I ordered nicotine from nude nicotine and flavors from TFA's website. Also don't get a pack of flavors, just pick a couple of recipes you'd like and order those flavors. Here is a shitload of VG for sale on amazon. Grab some syringes, and glass dropper bottles while you are there and you're ready..

EDIT: You'll also need some bigger syringes or a graduated cylinder..

I would read the sub for a couple of days, make sure to look at the top posts and search some stuff you think of.. I really wish I would have done that before I just bought a bunch of shit.

If you would like some tweezers (or I prefer surgical clamps/hemostats) I'm willing to buy some if you would like to add them to an Amazon wish list and send me the link. Going by hand is painful. (Seriously, go for the hemostats, they're amazing.)

u/Treedit · 1 pointr/eldertrees

Amazon has them in packs of 10-15. I strongly advise doing it this way and testing every 2-3 days and plotting your results. This way in the future you'll have an idea of how long it takes to clear your system (since this varies from person to person)

Some people could test clean in as little as a week. Personally it took me about 3 weeks to get consistently clean after smoking 2-4 times a day for 3 months. For reference I'm in my mid 20's with low body fat.

The exact tests I used

u/theJexican18 · 4 pointsr/medicalschool

Oddly nobody said stethoscope, but at least in my school, we need a stethoscope starting from the first year. For my first year, i used an Omron Stethoscope. I'm not sure what country you are in so dunno if that Amazon link is useful, but it was insanely cheap ($11 USD) and worked just fine for preclinicals. I'm upgrading for third year to a Littmann (still not terribly expensive, around $70 US) mostly because the Omron is a big weight on your neck after being there for 8 hours.

u/vape-on · 1 pointr/DIY_eJuice

Thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for. So you recommend getting a box of these over the pipettes?

I'll probably pick up another order of these as well. Got them on my first order, but ran out quick. They aren't the most amazing bottles, but I find them perfect for test batches.

Not bad. A few items from my EDC if you're interested:

My pen light.

My trauma shears.

Edit: a few more.

Hip clip. I've gradually come to prefer wearing my stethoscope this way. And for goodness sake, DON'T leave yours on the rearview mirror of your car. Ever. Repeated heating/cooling caused my Cardio III to crack at the point where it hung from the mirror.

Reflex hammer. Mine isn't as cool as this one...

u/AquaticRick · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

I use a different Co2 so can't say as I don't have that to check, but the flourish I use is 2 times a week as well.

For measuring you can use the cap(I hate doing that) or look for syringes that would be the right size for your tank. There's quite a variety. You should be able to find something that measures up to what you dose and has a way to get it from the bottle.

Some examples Curved tip like this one, or even using one without the curved tip with airline tubing that you measured how much it holds in addition to the syringe.

Those were just quick links, best to shop around a bit more or find something local for cheaper.

u/lomlslomls · 3 pointsr/preppers

This. You might purchase a decent off-the-shelf kit and then augment it with more/better items such as pain relievers, anti diarrheal, benadryl or similar. Pads and rolled gauze (these things are VERY useful in a kit).

You might consider a good first aid book and even things like scalpels, hemostats and sutures. Quick Clot and even a tourniquet to stop blood loss.

I keep a bottle of water in my kits as well, you will likely need some water to clean wounds, etc.

Of all the things in my kit I tend to use band aids, ACE bandages, cold compresses and meds the most.

if i decided to do this, i would take the time to study up on how to look and what to expect to see and do several checks when ears were in good shape. its just a matter of weighing whether the time + money is worth it to invest in order to have a better idea of what's going on without having to go to the doctor every time. And you can get blunt syringes from [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/Duda-Energy-Syringepk001-Industrial-Syringes/dp/B00NDETMR2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1485633133&sr=8-4&keywords=blunt+syringe) or Goulet as well. You can also use any small glass or plastic vial you might have, I recommend small spice or jewelry jars. You can often find them in craft shops if that's easier and more local for you. It's pretty cool, and a third the price of a plumber showing up, saying "hi", and leaving. However, it has a fixed focal length.

I would start by looking at the water situation outside the house. Are the downspouts moving water to at least ten feet from the foundation? Is your soil graded away from the house? Is the soil near the house well drained? If not, adding that french drain won't hurt.

u/Khowl · 4 pointsr/fountainpens

Get a body fat caliper and a cloth measuring tape. Take measurements weekly. Body fat caliper comes with instructions but pick a few "problem areas" and "growth areas" for the measuring tape (upper thigh, waist, stomach, chest, biceps, calf). Weight is a terrible measure of health. What matters most is what percentage of your weight is unnecessary fat vs healthy bones, muscle, organs and necessary fat. Since it requires two to do the measurements, and you're married, do it after frisky times :)

u/Johnny_Lawless_Esq · 1 pointr/xxfitness

THAT is badass. That has success written all the fuck over it. Focus on that.

On a slightly different note, pullups are a great measure of body composition because if you're fat, you aren't doing pullups, period.

My personal suggestion is to forget about weight entirely. Get yourself a pair of skinfold calipers and start tracking your body fat percentage instead.

Multiple ways, depending on the shot.

Stick a camera on a tube down the burrow. Like this:
https://www.amazon.com/BlueFire-Android-Endoscope-Phones-Function/dp/B013HZCYXK

Some times the animal is put in a specially made cage like a fish aquarium, so the animal thinks it's in a burrow but it's really in a giant glass cage and a normal camera can film from the outside.

http://www.bbc.com/earth/story/20160310-filming-the-impossible-sets-filming-burrows-and-tanks

Or even hidden cameras in a artificial den that's made to look like a real den.

u/King_Of_Suede · 1 pointr/Cartalk

If you actually dropped the clip down the ports, that motor is going to need a rebuild. Here's a cheap endoscope you can get that hooks up directly to your phone. You'll need to take a look to see what's really going on.

At this point, you have two options (on the assumption that the clip is in there and doing damage). You can either get yourself a junkyard 5.3 and swap it out (definitely the cheapest option), or undertake a rebuild.

N.B. Let this be a lesson to anyone else reading that isn't already aware. Always plug your ports when working on a motor. I use shop towels, works pretty good and doesn't leave behind a lot of fibers. If you don't, it could easily cost you your entire motor.

Just to add to your post, someone on /r/diy_ejuice taught me this trick a long time ago.

Buy a box of 1ml syringes like this one from amazon, and use a rubber band to attach the syringe to each bottle of flavoring.

Reusing the same syringe for multiple flavorings leads to a cross-contamination of flavors. I learned this the hard way when my entire collection started smelling and tasting like TFA honey.

For the PG solution I use the small visine (eye drops) bottles. I calibrate each bottle I mix up but from memory it's something like 25 drops to a mL. Not sure what API means, but I'll throw out a guess and think it's alcohol. You'll have to do some research to see if the plastic they use for the bottle reacts with alcohol (or whatever solvent you end up using)

That pipette you linked to sucks ass. It's very flimsy, thin plastic. It can be broken or malformed very easily. That said, yes, it would work. Personally I recommend you get something more formidable. You will get better accuracy using a 1 mL insulin syringe. for instance: http://www.amazon.com/Pack-Industrial-Syringes-Blunt-Needle/dp/B00NDETMR2/

Decongestants. Heat on that side. Either a thermophore (moist heat), or a warm washcloth. That's if you actually have congestion in them. If they just feel stopped up, but aren't really - not sure what to tell you.

Also, get one of these. Obviously, you can't use it on yourself, but if you have a partner or friend who is willing to help you out, you can learn to see for yourself (secondhand, lol) what's really going on in there when you feel stopped up. I got one years ago to verify for myself what was going on when my kids were getting cranky or misbehaving - can't tell you how often it was because they had an ear infection, but weren't displaying typical pain or fever symptoms.

Generally blisters form when there is too much friction. The presence of water, be it sweat or rainwater, can exacerbate this. Typically the cause is an ill-fitting shoe. In your case, it may well be the socks. So obviously don't use those socks again. But the sock might not be the whole cause. Perhaps there is something about your shoe that your fluffier socks are protecting you from?

Where on your foot is the blister?

Anyway, now that you have the blister, you can deal with it in a couple ways. Generally speaking, you should not drain the blister unless it's already been ruptured naturally. The fluid inside will act as a cushion. And if it does rupture, do not peel away the outside skin. That's going to make it more painful and more susceptible to infection. I recommend some blister bandages. You should be able to find them in a good drug store or supermarket. The brand isn't important. Or look for some tegaderm film, though that might be less likely than the blister bandages.

In the future, remember that prevention is key. Listen to your feet. If you feel a "hot spot" forming somewhere, don't ignore it. Figure out the cause and make necessary changes.

With this stethoscope I can hear perfectly. Our school requires us to take BP every appointment and some people have been diagnosed/run to the emergency room because of high blood pressure. Definitely tonsiliths (aka tonsil stones)

These are sticking out because fluctuations in the tissue of the tonsils, caused by ordinary movements or swelling of the tissue, is working the stones out of their cavities.

You can go look up exactly what these are and how they're formed on your own. I'll tell you how I treat them when they are erupting. I've had bad tonsils all my life so this is nothing new to me.

Get yourself a Monoject 412 syringe. On that Amazon.com web page, you'll see that others are using this for the very same thing. Clean after every use.

I make a 50/50 solution of Cool Mint Lysterine mouthwash and water. Doctors will recommend distilled water. Fill the syringe and aim a jet of the solution at the tonsilith. You'll want to use a mirror and a well lit room, of course. Get the tip of the syringe as close to the tonsilith as possible. Once you've dislodged the tonsilith, aim the jet of solution into the hole from which it came.

Doctors will tell you not to stick the syringe into hole in the tonsil. You run the risk of scratching the tissue with the tip of the syringe. If your gag reflex is touchy, you may accidentally induce vomiting, so there's that warning as well.

Once the first stone is gone, hitting the hole with the jet of solution will reveal just how much of that crap is in your tonsils. Refill the syringe as often as needed.

Sometimes you will see the head of a tonsilith rattling around in the hole, but he won't come out. At this point, use a long cotton swab to apply pressure to the OUTSIDE OF THE TONSIL near the occupied hole. If your gag-reflex is touchy, you run the risk of triggering vomiting or EVEN SWALLOWING THE COTTON SWAB. I recommend a firm grip on the swab and the use of LONG swabs.

By applying pressure, you can break up the stone in the tonsil cavity. Rinse again and see if you can get it out.

Gargle when finished. Brush your teeth. Clean tonsiliths from the sink or face the wrath of your housemates.

WHATEVER YOU DO, NEVER SMASH THE TONSILITH BETWEEN YOUR FINGERS AND SMELL IT. SATAN, HIMSELF, WILL ENTER YOUR BRAIN THROUGH YOUR NOSE.

I was taught it in first responders stuff for the USMC. obviously a bit different then basic first aid but it definitely has its place, so much so we all carry a combat tourniquet

You will be fine. I have done tests to see what my rates are for becoming cleaning using these: Science Purchase Instant Single Panel Drug Test Kit - Test for Marijuana (THC) - 15 pk https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C39D68/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_lCs.wbC76GY3B

3 days is usually what I was finding if I was previously clean.

No, you can damage your tonsil that way.

Here's what you need; it is gentle and works really well:

Just get a pack of these and shoot body-temp water back there as you shine a little flashlight with the other hand.

Anyone who has had a lot of tonsillitis probably has holes in their tonsils, and these clean them out.

You're welcome. I'm glad people are finding them helpful. I have a few more in the pipeline. My camera battery died in the middle of the last one I was working on, so I need to re-record it. More to come....

I only use a needle tip for my Nicotine and my PG. All of my flavors are just the syringe - no needle. Here's exactly what I purchased from Amazon to use for my flavors. You get 100 of them for $12 (or the cost of 2 packs of smokes - that's how I price all of my vape supplies).

I'd guess 12-13%; its hard tu guess without typical indicator like abs because you don't have a ton of muscle. You should definitely bulk though because you don't have enough muscle to cut into. If you want a better body fat estimate, get one of these "Accu-Measure Body Fat Caliper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QURRUK". They are consistent one you get the hang of them.

If you have someone who can help you do caliper testing it's a very cheap and accurate way to measure your BF%.

I bought this last year and it comes with a little booklet on how to properly use it and calculate your BF. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000AN3UB/

Also, take a B-vitamin and take it an hour or two before the test, it will help add the color back to your pee

Source : recently had to take a drug test, am a heavy marijuana smoker, and tested myself 3 times a day the week leading up to the test - Amazon has the marijuana urine tests fairly cheap

The bf% on scale can be notoriously inaccurate, but there isn't really a way to get an accurate reading on this without going to a research facility and using their dexascan or water weighing machines.

Personally, I have a little caliper and do that as well as measurements. They are usually close enough to the same measurement for me.

You may notice plastic debris, but if you do hot oil changes you might not. The plus side of springs is that they don't really wear out (when you get good ones).

You might be able to pop off a valve cover and stick a cheap USB bore scope in there and give it a look.

u/feistypenguin · 2 pointsr/preppers

Many local hospitals or Fire / EMS places will hold free or cheap "Stop the Bleed" courses, that will give you the essentials on how to stop bleeding.

Once you learn how to tie a tourniquet, then buy a few cravats, or else a medical-grade tourniquet or battle dressing. On the medical section of our CERT course, the training officer mentioned it is a good idea to have a one of these tourniquets easily accessible on the outside of whatever medkit you have, because it will often be the first thing you want to pull out, when you come across a bleeding victim.

Tourniquets can be improvised, but on a serious / arterial bleed, you would only have a minute or two to MacGyver one before the person loses too much blood.

Lung punctures require some special tools and training to handle, in order to prevent the lung from collapsing. I wouldn't go poking into someone's lungs without a class or two on how to treat it properly.

A cheap solution to estimate body fat percentage would be to buy a [fat caliper] (https://www.amazon.com/AccuFitness-AM99-Accu-Measure-Body-Caliper/dp/B000QURRUK) and figure out how to use it. From what I've heard, the accuracy is directly proportional to correct usage, so make sure you have a way to get that in. Much cheaper than the complicated tests (like water immersion) though.

Tegaderm is seriously excellent stuff. You cover the blisters in soft 4x4 bandages, and then put the tegaderm over it. It acts like a giant bandaid, and will reduce the pain. It also eliminates friction, which can make blisters larger and more numerous.

You can use photos and try to compare to online photo estimates (google images has charts), you can buy a caliper to pinch a fold of skin, some scales you step on can estimate it, all of these options are never 100% accurate. If you have dough to spare you can get a DEXA scan, which shows all of your mass and breaks it down for you into fat, muscle, bone, etc. Some gyms or trainers might have better scales than the home scales, but again that may come with a cost. If money is an issue, get a set of bodyfat calipers on amazon and combine multiple pinch measurements with online photo charts, and try to estimate that way.

Here's the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/AccuFitness-AM99-Accu-Measure-Body-Caliper/dp/B000QURRUK/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1511899912&sr=8-1&keywords=body+fat+caliper

I fly and carry with Delta regularly. A couple of times a month. Most of the time the folks that are tasked with doing the zip ties are just as annoyed as I am. The solution is simple. Scissors. You are allowed to carry scissors on your flight. I carry THESE SCISSORS in my carry on. When I get my bag from the dude after zipping it up I pull my scissors out of my carry on and cut them off right in front of them. Usually I hand him/her the trash. I've never had one push back on me. There's nothing they can do. It's your property.

I have an issue with constantly wanting to pick at mine and just the affected area getting irritated and uncomfortable due to movement and clothes. I find that this (here's the [smaller version] (http://smile.amazon.com/Nexcare-Tegaderm-Waterproof-Transparent-Dressing/dp/B000GG7UEW/ref=sr_1_6?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1452501499&sr=1-6&keywords=tegaderm) - disclaimer: I've never used this one before) helps a lot. Once you put it on, it's like second skin and you don't feel it. It really helps me not pick at it because I forget that area was affected in the first place. That area won't get irritated due to friction either. It also stays all day (I forget it's there), even in like the awkward creases of butt/groin area - I've even used a combination of neosporin and acne cream under it (no gauze, just straight on skin), didn't apply it perfectly and not only did it stay >24 hrs, it stayed through multiple sessions of rough sex and showers. It was an especially rough breakout and since the entire area was kept clean by that film and I didn't mess with it, it was basically entirely healed when I took it off, with minimal to no scarring that I can notice too, compared the countless other breakouts.

Hope this helps, I'm still struggling to manage mine and it makes me so self conscious since my boyfriend is a butt dude, even though he doesn't care.

You can use calipers, induction measuring, or displacement. Once you have a number for your body fat percentage, you'll multiply your weight by your body fat percentage to get a fat weight (example: 160lb * .2 = 32lb fat) subtract that from total weight to get lean body weight (160 - 32 = 128).

> Also, what is a good body fat calculator?

It's difficult to accurately estimate body fat %, especially with an online calculator. DXA scans are the most accurate method, and can usually be found in universities or training centers. Body fat calipers are a much cheaper and more convenient method but aren't as accurate. The scales devices that measure electrical conductivity aren't accurate at all.

u/Fap-0-matic · 8 pointsr/scuba

This.
A pair of shears is 1000 times more practical while diving than a knife. One set of these will cut through cloth, rope, fishing line, steel cables (fishing leaders) and wire much easier than even the knives with a line cutter hook. They also can be found for as little as a few bucks and won't stab or slice someone open on accident.
