I feel like I've become an unpaid spokesperson but this was literally one of my most useful baby items for our first winter. It is completely safe for the car seat (nothing touches the straps) and it kept my daughter so warm. I would just dress her in a regular sleep and play and with this thing she would not even notice that it was 5 degrees outside.
But as for the snow suit it just depends on your lifestyle. Do you spend a lot of time outside? Then yes, get one. If not, it's really not necessary. We had one, but only because I found it at a mom 2 mom sale for $5. We literally used it once to take some photos outside in the snow. That was it. Meanwhile, my cousin lives in the Rockies and they hike as a family a lot. Obviously a snow suit was critical for them.
My friend just showed me her 7AM Enfant Nido . I just bought one!
It’s super safe for car seat (doesn’t go between baby and straps) and in about 20-30 degree weather, she put her baby in with a long sleeved onesie and pants, the Nido, and he was soooo toasty warm. Actually a bit sweaty if you kept him wrapped up in it in a car, but it opens very easily. No need for bulky jackets or anything. I loved it and bought it on amazon prime a few hours later, haha.
