acceptable tv is awesome and they have episodes available on amazon
Booms give you a little more versatility for outdoor shoots. Lavs are great for indoor "studio" style shoots. Depends on what you're trying to do.
Canon 5-Ds and 7-Ds are king in the Los Angeles sketch world, though you could get away with something less HD definitely.
Final Cut is pretty much the standard for editing.

Though I'd say ignore the story structure stuff when it comes to sketch. You're not filming a short story with character growth, you're basically just taking one unusual thing and heightening it over the span of 1-3 minutes.
