This is what I'm using, and I couldn't be happier. It's the same Predator however it has the IPS panel. I'm a fan of the IPS colors for the extra $100, and I paid more than $700 a few years ago. Still worth.

If you're looking to save $100, you can get the same monitor you mentioned (TN Predator) at Amazon cheaper than Newegg.

u/wesrawr · 12 pointsr/buildapcsales

Base is 700. The TN version base is 600

u/Anaron · 5 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

It's the IPS version. The TN version is here and it has 1ms response time (vs. 4ms). Also, buyer reviews confirm that it is indeed the IPS version. You can read it on the product page.

u/I_Do_Not_Sow · 3 pointsr/neoliberal

I need to get a new monitor because my main one seems to be dying.

Should I go 1440p IPS @ 60Hz, 1440p TN @ 144Hz, or just spend the $100 extra bucks for 1440p IPS @ 144Hz?

u/ShittyFrogMeme · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

No. Same monitor is on sale for $485 on Amazon right now: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01N11QIYW/

FYI this monitor is the TN version and goes on sale all the time. If you want a TN monitor, the Dell S2716DG for $499 may actually be preferable https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B0149QBOF0

Also there's the always common Acer Recertified deal on the IPS version. Right now its $545 (when in stock).

Not sure what the final price would be but ...

Currently, I'm on Acer Predator 1440p 144 Hz TN panel and it's butter smooth with ingame fps going around 80-90 fps in densely populated areas and 160+ fps in normal average flights.

Now ... there is a lot of stuff that you can take into conderations when building your own PC from a Case what case you want and how much airflow it's gonna have to what components you're gonna be running with especially coolers and fans how many you can put in your case and how big the fans you want.

Personally I can list the components that I'm using on my build and you can take it as is and compare to what you think suits you.

My rig:

  • MONITOR: - Acer Predator 1440p 144 Hz TN pannel
  • CASE: FRACTAL DESIGN Meshify S2 Black - Dark TG
  • RAM: - FlareX 3200 Mhz CL14 XMP profile running no issues ( 32 gigs )
  • CPU: - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • CPU Cooler: - CORSAIR H110i Watercool close loop
  • GPU: - STRIX 1080 (Currently clock speed is staying at 2000 Mhz but can go higher just to lazy)
  • Motherboard: - X370 Taichi (Yes I bought this board 2 years ago with my first amd 1600X processor)
  • Power Suply: - CORSAIR HX 1000W 80+ Platinum
  • M.2 Storage: - SAMSUNG 970 Pro 512 gigs (M.2)
  • SSD Storage: SAMSUNG 860 EVO Basic 512 gigs ( SATA ) | SAMSUNG 850 EVO Basic 256 gigs (SATA)
  • HDD Storage: - WESTERN DIGITAL Black, 3.5 (4 TB)
  • Fans: - ARCTIC P14 PWM (140 mm 1700 rpm static)

I've upgraded my system maybe a month ago with new components and new Ryzen CPU and man it kicks ass.
Some components like GPU, Motherboard, RAM I did not change for 2 years cause they still working and I would see no real benefit from upgrading them compared to how much money I would dish out.

For example ... Motherboard X370 Taichi I know I bought a good motherboard when I was buying my first gen AMD build and I sorta hoped they would keep their promiss of being backward compatible and AMD totally did.

Upgraded my bios and no problems what so ever and Honestly this mobo has awesome VRM (14 phase power distro) combined with quality chokes. I've overclocked my old 1600X to 4+ Gigs for 2 years straight and now don't even bother upgrading the 3700X cause there's just no need the standard PB handles everything boosting your single cores when gaming and using only a few cores and handling the voltage by lowering the load when all cores are under load cause you can have higher voltage when boosting only a couple of cores (1.4 -1.5v) compared to voltage when all cores are under load (1.3v).

I'd guess my only tip when it comes to motherboards would be to actually look up what kind of RAM trace scheme they're using. You generally see 2 used ... one called "Daisy chaining" and other called "T topology"

Daisy Channing - This is a way of laying down traces on the PBC itself so it connects one DIM slot of ram to the other and this way of doing things is beneficial when you don't have all DIM slots of RAM fitted (For example you're using dual-channel 2x8 Gigs ram sticks) and you have 4 slots.

T Topology - On the other hand this way of laying down traces on the PCB connects DIM slots in such a way that it benefits if you have all of your DIM slots filled with ram sticks like 2x dual-channel 2x8 gig ram sticks that would total to 32 Gigs.

Now, this just means that if you're using proper configuration as the motherboard was made it's gonna give you more stability and clock speed when you try to push for higher clock speeds and tighter timings, so if you're gonna get decked out ram DIM slots check for what type of motherboard you're getting for example my mobo is a T-topology mobo while it's usually more popular to daisy chain them cause most people don't fully utilize all dim slots of the motherboard since you don't really need 32 gigs of ram unless you're playing something like DCS or like that.

    Ok, now about RAM ...
It is true that Ryzen CPU's love fast memory since its faster memory means faster interconnect between infinity fabric and ram due to how they're tied together via fclock coupling mode.

Steve and buds from Gamers Nexus made an awesome video about this Check it out here if you're interested

But basic TL;DR is that it's best to get 3200 Mhz low latency CL14 sticks with XMP profiles setup and you won't have to mess with timings or any manual overclocking (if you can get them)

As for temperatures during very hot summer like we're having right now with ambient temps going around 32-34 degrees when it feels like 38-40 my temps are the following:

  • GPU: Max temp during load and long gaming sessions is about 56 - 58 degrees
  • CPU: Idle around 30 - 36 degrees, during games around 45 - 50 degrees and at lengthy stress test 66 degrees

I have around 3x140mm fans setup as intake from the front as well as one on the bottom on the case as intake and I have my radiator mounted to the top exhausting heat (cause heat gues up so assisting nature is the best way of doing things) and one fan at the back also 140m exhausting heat at the back.

    It's a pretty good setup.

If you have any questions feel free to ask
u/AltForFriendPC · 3 pointsr/buildapcforme

32GB of RAM is really impractical right now- RAM is expensive right now, and the most you'll need is 16GB if you aren't doing something like video editing.

Overclocking doesn't damage your parts if you have a good cooler and do it correctly. I would really advise it- you're at a budget where you should definitely overclock if you want the best performance possible.

Another thing to note is that you may want a new monitor. If you're playing on a cheap 1080p one, it's not worth it to get more than a $700-1000 PC. You should account for a new monitor in the budget, and then use your current one as a secondary monitor off to the side. Possible monitor options:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2530-FreeSync-Monitor-DisplayPort/dp/B071DTCPP3/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1510862966&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=1440p+144Hz+gsync&psc=1 It's a little under $400, 1080p 240Hz (best refresh rate, use this with an Intel CPU and not AMD)

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1510862966&sr=1-4&keywords=1440p+144Hz+gsync 1440p 144Hz- use this with Intel and not AMD, again. It's an awesoe middle ground in terms of refresh rate and resolution.

Alternatively, any 4k monitor will do and you can usually find those for $250 to 350. You can use either an AMD or Intel CPU with these.

u/IAmMTheGamer · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Here is what I think you're talking about. The difference is the panel. The cheaper one has a TN panel, which will have worse colors. The TN panels will have a faster response time, but when you're comparing 1 ms to 4 ms it's not that big a deal.

u/The3rcticMaG · 2 pointsr/buildapc

My friend has this one and recommends it: Asus ROG Swift PG278QR

Theres also the Acer Predator XB271HU

u/CortanaInstaller · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Yes, for starters it is nearly $400 on Amazon

Also, it is a Chinese site that I never heard of

edit: the difference in naming is TN is Abmiprz and the IPS is Bmiprz

u/fallfastasleep · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'm gonna add to this, cheaper goes beyond the card. Gsync vs freesync is also a price factor. Unless you have a adaptive sync capable monitor already, it's cheaper going vega 64 @ 499$ + a 27" 1440p 144hz freesync monitor @ $350 would be cheaper than a 1080 @ 449$ + a similar spec'd gsync monitor @ 499$

I'd say Amd wins this fight

u/jianthekorean · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Just picked one up. They're normally $700.

Edit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N11QIYW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_XqXAzbJX21HMC

Normally $599. $100 off isn't bad.

In love with the smoothness of 144hz gsync. Well worth the price if you can push the frames.

u/atcasual · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Someone left a comment to drop the 1070 to a 1060, which I actually disagree with. The 1070 will help you play at 1440p, and will also let you play new games when they come out in the future. If you want to play different types of games, that 1060 will not help you.

Here are my 3 suggestions:

There’s nothing wrong with your case, but if you like it, you could switch the case to this.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/p8x2FT/nzxt-h500-black-atx-mid-tower-case-ca-h500b-b1

You don’t need a 80+ gold PSU, 80+ bronze is good enough, I suggest this:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Hwbkcf/evga-b3-650w-80-bronze-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-220-b3-0650-v1

The only outstandingly bad choice here is your monitor. You picked a 60hz monitor from 2015. While I think your system has enough power for 1440p, it would probably hit too hard on your budget for a good 1440p monitor. Since you are playing games like CS:GO and Dota I think a 1080p 144hz will look more crisp than a 1440p 60hz, so I suggest using this:
https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2402-FreeSync-Advanced-Ergonomics/dp/B075D1B4SV

If you have enough money for a 1440p 144hz, I suggest this:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAJ76EIXAV3V6D6JEQ&tag=globalnetwork-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B01N11QIYW

Acer Predator XB271HU

This is a pretty good one that's 1440p, 144hz, 27 inch, and $450. Generally these kind of monitors go for about $600 so it's a pretty good deal right now.

u/shlokrshah · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

Gotcha gotcha. It's still a good bit higher than most people on here would be willing to pay especially since it's used but good luck!

PS: CPU & Monitor are a bit lower at the following two vendors. PCP isn't always accurate.

u/rmeas002 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I need a 2nd monitor on my gaming PC, especially with it being hockey season. Any suggestions? My gaming PC monitor is the Acer Predator XB271HU. I'm looking for just a 27" 1440p monitor with an IPS panel that isn't incredible expensive. I'm also going to be mounting it to a monitor arm to put it above my current monitor.

u/Slippery_Slug · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

in my opinion, since my build is very similar, you best bets for moniters would be:

IPS: Acer Predator xb271hu
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N11QIYW/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1492867021&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=acer+predator

  • IPS, so it has better picture quality
  • looks quite sexy
  • might find a good deal at your local Costco

    TN Panel: Dell S2417DG
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-24-led-qhd-gsync-monitor-black/5655614.p?skuId=5655614

  • TN Panel, so it's cheaper
  • good quality TN Panel however so it will still look great
  • on sale right now at best buy

    Both:

  • have gsync, which will allow you to stay with the 1080 ti for quite a long time

  • come in 24 or 27"

  • Have Vesa mounts

You can overclock it to get it up to 165hz from the settings on the monitor. I've used it since January and I loooooove it.

u/clumsyfawn · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Some reviewers have a tendency to show the product in it's very best ability (i guess they get paid) to which i fell for of course. It even got a 4 star rating on Amazon. But it seems like many were out of luck and got sent a panel with fucked up colors. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW

Also keep in mind how many of those 5 star reviews are just people astonished going into 144hz and 1440p, not mentioning colours or the black levels.

Trying to set the settings as suggested in the top review does absolutely nothing and has even worse results than the default settings for me. So this is a fix for anyone who has a panel with dodgy colors.

What i want to add is that i'm rude in the comments because all the replies are by people who do not experience this issue, cannot test this and simply dismiss this solution without having any experience with this, whereas i personally had issues with this for a long time until i tried this solution and it made me not hate this monitor for once.

u/Wtf_socialism_really · 1 pointr/Monitors

You will drop some frames going to a 1440p monitor, but 60-144 hz is a huge difference and pretty much the biggest difference of all right now. It will also help somewhat with aliasing due to the greater number of pixels on screen at once.

If you have any intention of upgrading your GPU at some point, 1440p is an even more attractive option because those GPUs will drive 1440p even better.

Quick edit: I also say I'm very surprised at the cost of that TN panel from ASUS. Their premium on ROG is insane. For that price you can literally get an IPS Acer Predator or save a good chunk of money on the equivalent TN panel

u/dogbreath101 · 1 pointr/buildapc

i guess i never thought about monitor as being an important pc part but it makes sense

can i get a quick explanation of panel types and if going from tn to ips is worth 140 dollars?

Each monitor varies. I know this monitor does have a gsync version, however, the specific monitor I listed, is listed on nvidia's monitor compatibility list.

Edit: Got confirmation from a friend about the gsync. It's the predator line, which is currently $399 on amazon.

As others have said, you could easily go for a 1440p/144Hz/G-Sync monitor instead if you want to. You still have room in the budget for it. If so:

I like the smaller size since it's better for competitive play. The DPI increase over 1080p makes a big difference for screen real estate. I have nothing but good things to say about that monitor. Color reproduction is surprisingly good for a TN panel. I can play for long periods of time without a headache. It's pricey but I don't regret buying it at all.

Edit: It's the 23.6 inch 2560x1400 TN display with G-Sync.

u/kevin82485 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Well, I mean you could get the monitors later if it's not in your budget, but it is something you would definitely want to do at some point if you want to get the best visual quality you can. 4k monitors would also be a choice, but you're really limited to just 60 Hz refresh rates. There are 4k 144Hz monitors, but they're insanely expensive. I think most people would agree that 1440p 144 Hz is a better visual experience than 4K 60 Hz.

Something like this is what I would be looking at: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N11QIYW.

u/Shane1200 · 1 pointr/Monitors

These two are going to be the best under $500, both are 1440 27" 144hz. If you plan on using a PS4 a lot, I wouldnt advise getting 1440. 1080 at 240hz may be your best bet for PS4/PC use, either that or 4k 75hz+. I prefer a higher refresh rate over resolution but if you do choose 1080 240hz id say get a 24".

Don't be scared to upgrade your computer. As long as it's not a super compact build, swapping out a graphics card should be pretty straightforward. You can find many tutorials and guides on youtube on how to replace a graphics card.
Here's a guide by Linus Tech Tips on installing graphics cards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyDxrTHDjXQ.
I would recommend a gtx 1080 or 1070 ti for high framerate 1440p gaming.

A little more expensive but this one is IPS so the color should be a little better. Slower response time then.

Viewsonic discontinued their IPS equivalent and switched to TN but here is their IPS model: XG2703-GS

Let me know if this works. I'm on mobile and can try on my computer later. Also, I have prime so that may have decreased the price a bit.

How does this Dell monitor compare to the Acer Predator ones? I'll soon be ordering 2x monitors from either of these brands in 27" 144hz 2560x1440 and both are thin bezel monitors so it all comes down to which is best.

Acer Predator (TN)

Acer Predator (IPS)

Dell (TN)

I would appreciate some insight in this as I don't really have much knowledge as to what to look for on monitors :)

I bought the Dell S2716DG about a month ago and had severe banding issues with that one. I received a replacement and have banding issues on that one too. I've been DMing @Dellcares on Twitter now for about 2 and a half weeks and I'm still waiting for a solution to this. I now have my eyes on this Acer Predator XB271HU. It just went on sale for about $500 when it was at the cheapest $600 for the longest time. Plus it can OC to 165hz.

Other than the banding issues the Dell is a great monitor.

Gotcha, that's similar to my setup actually. This is absolutely worth the extra 99. Not only do you ge the 144fps, you also get active g sync at 30-144Hz https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1495423016&sr=8-5&keywords=g+sync+144+hz

u/KingJanIIISobieski · 1 pointr/pcparts

Looks like the TN version of this monitor also just came down in price. Not sure which one is a better buy, since TN is better for competitive gaming but I've heard good things about the IPS on this one.

u/krappadizzle · 1 pointr/nvidia

Sure, the Ultrawide and the 1440p I use. Both run by a single 1080ti. No issues playing any games, though I'm only playing on the Ultrawide at the moment as my 1440p is now my secondary monitor(it was my main one for quite a few years)

If you don't want to spend the extra cash for the Ultrawide, that 1440p monitor is awesome and I would suggest it to anyone. Games will run better at 2560x1440 vs. the 3440x1440 as well. But it's hard to go back from ultrawide once you've commited to it. At 1440p the 1080ti is a monster of a card and you will not have ANY issues playing just about everything maxed out.

This model has a very common color banding issue, just check here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/search?q=S2716DG+banding&restrict_sr=on&sort=new&t=all

What's your budget?

Do you need G-Sync?

Do you specifically want a TN panel?

u/Basher5155 · 1 pointr/Monitors

There's two versions.

TN
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW

IPS
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-2560x1440-Display/dp/B0173PEX20

I'd look at GTG Response times to determine if it's TN or IPS. TN is usually 1ms while IPS usually is 4ms or more..

Can’t wait lol

One more thing while you’re here... why are 4K monitors cheaper then 1440p?

I love my Acer Predator xb271hu, gives you 1440p at 144Hz with G-Sync and IPS, which your desktop can drive fairly well. As far as a keyboard I have a WASD Code with Cherry MX brown switches, but it's a preference thing. For most people I recommend buying a cheap Amazon Basics keyboard for $10 until you find a keyboard that you really like.

u/FuckYourBanMods · 0 pointsr/pcmasterrace

No no NO, don't listen to the guy that just replied to you. If you're gonna spend over 1K on a tower, you NEED a better than 1080p monitor. The 1080p resolution is old 2010 garbage now. I would go for a 2k monitor or something similar. Find something like this to get you started:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1Y33V3XP53YTK&keywords=acer+predator+monitor&qid=1562682200&s=gateway&sprefix=acer+predator+mo%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-4#customerReviews

A monitor is a direct look at the power and quality of your PC experience. If you don't have a quality monitor, what's the point of having a good build? If you spend a bit more now, you can enjoy it for years longer. Ignoring the amazon reviews for this particular one, I've had mine over 2 years, and it's been an excellent experience so far.

u/SamBayramov · -1 pointsr/buildapc

I really suggest to buy this, but they cost more than 400:

TN, 2k, 144hz to 165hz, g-sync. Cost 500 : https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW

IPS, 2k, 144hz to 165hz, g-sync, cost 550: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-2560x1440-Display/dp/B0173PEX20

This is bad that they cost more than 400, but c’mon, you get a lot of spec. So, the final choice is yours!
