The cable that comes with iPad runs at usb 2.0 as it is optimized for power delivery. to get usb 3.0 speeds, you will need to get a usb 3.0 type C cable. like This one.
From my 10 seconds of googling it looks like it does make a difference.

So I need another USBC Cable for my OG pixel, and I was looking through the options and was planning on getting the amazon basics USBC-USBC cable (Benson Leung approved), but then I saw the updated USB 3.1 cable and wasn't sure if there was actually any benefit to it. Is this something worth shelling out double/triple the price for when I'm just using it as a charging cable?
>Thanks for the analysis, good stuff !

>Still have a follow-up question: There are logos for HiSpeed, SuperSpeed and SuperSpeed+, so there may be three different types of cables. I can see the HiSpeed vs SuperSpeed difference with former only having USB 2.0 wires. Is there a SuperSpeed vs. SuperSpeed+ difference in the cable ?

SuperSpeed (Gen 1, 5gbps) cables' SuperSpeed pairs are only guaranteed to pass USB's signal integrity requirements up to 5ghz. The Gen 1 cable's e-marker is also programmed to identify itself as a Gen 1 cable, so a USB host that checks the cable will restrict the speed of the link to 5gbps in the presence of that cable.
Gen 2 cables are built to a higher tolerance so their SI is still within the limits at 10ghz.
Also, a practical limitation: Existing passive cable technology means that longest Gen 1 cables are 2m. Gen 2 cables, because of the far tighter SI requirements, are practically limited to 1m.
If you want longer than a 1m SuperSpeed cable today, you'll have to settle for Gen 1 speeds (or do active cables... long story there).

>Some presumptions:

>SuperSpeed only (5GB) cables will vanish from the market (if there is even a difference to 10G). The 5G/Gen1 AmazonBasics cables on Amazon are no longer available.
The AmazonBasics Gen 1 cables are still available. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB-Type-C-Gen1-Cable/dp/B01GGKYUKI
Again, Gen 1 cables are not likely to vanish because they're the only way to get 6ft/2m cables today. Gen 2 passive cables have a practical limit of 1m/3ft.
>SuperSpeed+ and 5 amps require the e-mark to show their capability.

SuperSpeed, SuperSpeed+, or 5A. If the cable supports any of those, an e-marker is required.
