I'd strongly recommend getting a desktop PC rather than a laptop. Even a prebuilt, like the ASUS G20 or Corsair One will offer a better price-to-performance ratio than the best of the best laptops.

If you choose to build your own PC (recommended), then definitely wait for Vega. If it ends up impacting the market, great news for us and you get to spend less money on your computer (Yay!).

However, if you MUST purchase one right now

  • CPU:

            1. i7-7700k (with a good cooler) for pure gaming or

            2. r7-1700 (with a good cooler) for gaming/productivity.

NOTE: Make sure you get a motherboard that can overclock.

  • GPU:

            1. 1080 or 1080ti for 1440p+ resolutions or

            2. RX480, 1060, or 1070 for 1080p resolutions.

  • Also STRONGLY recommend an SSD, or else you'll take forever to load Star Citizen.

Everything else is really up to you.

Try this tower. Better specs. Smaller. Upgradeable.

Also a lot cheaper.

If you're going to invest in a VR, I wouldn't suggest a laptop.

This pc is very very highly rated.

if i sold it, it would be with a gtx 970 but its all the same specs.

i think my family might like it. good christmas present because they have macs that they are always complaining about being too slow.

It kinda sounds like you already want to buy it and you're looking for people here to agree with you, even though it's a community of builders who only support prebuilts if they're close to or cheaper than what you can get with a custom build.

This prebuilt's parts are worth about $1100 right now, give or take, so you're paying $300 in labor/markup/warranty. That's not great (my local shop charges $100 to put a computer together, and most components come with warranties on them) but nobody can really stop you from spending $1400 on this machine if you really want to.

You may as well get this one which is the same price with a better card, or this one which is roughly the same computer but several hundred cheaper, or even this one which is still roughly the same computer but much cheaper.

Sounds like a pretty solid price. It definitely will not be capable of SLI if it is the same case as this:

If you feel you would like to do any upgrading to your system down the road (which I would highly recommend having the freedom to) then you should go with a DIY build.

That case on the above linked system leaves no room for expansion.
