The entire totem is 3D-printed. Completely overkill, but I didn't know how to make a semi-transparent car + ball + properly-shaped frame without it. If you happen to have a 3D printer, I'm happy to send you the sources!

I'm happy to go into more details – but really I don't know how I would do it without a printer :/
I placed them in a gentle X shape, starting from the back of each corner of the cloak, up, criss cross in the middle, and over my shoulders, down the front into a pocket for the battery and control box, so I'm hoping it won't bend at all. Wrapping the hat with it was much harder though. Luckily it's fully glued down, and feels very secure.
The lights that I got really blew me away in quality and brightness. I don't think I could replicate their quality soldering myself. It slowly changes between like 16 colors.
Edit: here is the link to the LED lights I got. After thinking about your comment, I decided to reference them. They bend in most directions actually. They come on a small wheel, have an adhesive backing, and are covered with a clear epoxy it looks like. All the colors on the page are what that one strip can do.

I'm not talking about a strip that has to be controlled by an IR remote. I'm talking about something like this strip where you can control the modes from the strip itself and just connect it to the power port instead of having its own battery for simplicity sake.
These are what I'm putting under tu board, runs off 3aaa battery's and has 21 different modes/patterns/speed/ and any color combination

Not that particular one. This link explains different types of led chips. The 5050 SMD chips typically have all the colors built into each chip. I used this one for a battery application. And this one for my cabinet lighting.
