ATs don't come cheap typically. These are their gaming ones, it's not the exact model the TI casters were using, but they were almost assuredly using professional studio ones that were at least as much if not a couple hundred more per pair.

Audio Technica make some legit headphones. They're gaming headsets are based on the much of the time on the same architecture as their normal phones; THESE have a pretty great mic (though lacks low end you'll find in a condenser or dynamic XLR), and I imagine the sound is awesome.

I use Audio Technicas but haven't had hands on with their gaming range - a friend has the ones above and says they're awesome, his mic sounds good though it's compressed through the apps like teamspeak and general gaming, so for streaming it will probably sound better.

I just use a Zalman clip on mic. Sounds fine for VOIP but I won't be using it when I start streaming.

Would some of the headsets you sent have better audio quality? I'm not sure what really makes some of these headsets for gaming. I'm under the notion that headphones made for good audio quality would sound better than those made just for "gaming". But if I can achieve some of the same audio quality that I liked out of the m50x's for there gaming headset line is be inclined to try them out.

Hi there. I’m looking for some headphones that would be great for gaming and music. My budget is anything under £280, although I can stretch the budget. I’m located in the UK.

I currently use an Astro A40 headset, however after general wear and tear the cable has started coming loose at the ends which causes the audio to cut out at irregular intervals. I have these paired with an Asus Xonar DX soundcard for PC and I also have an Astro Mixamp for gaming on consoles.

I’d like some headphones with natural sound and good balance as I’m not too keen on the current trend of Bass heavy products. Over-Ear design is an absolute must for me and I’m not too worried on how it looks, so long as it’s comfortable and not too bulky. I have no preference on isolation.

I’ve been through various crappy Turtle Beach sets, Tritton 5.1 Pro and now my current headset which does the job well but I kind of want to take a step up into audiophile grade hardware. I’ve been looking mainly at Sennheiser and Audio-Technika and some products that look interesting are the HD 650, the HD 598 and the ATH-AG1.

If it’s of any help my preferred music is Heavy Metal, Progressive Rock, Synthpop and I also have a big soft spot for Symphonic Metal. As for gaming, I’m really not too worried about surround sound capabilities because I can use the mixamp to simulate 5.1/7.1 surround sound on consoles, and on the PC, I enable Dolby Headphone.

Any suggestions will be very helpful and I thank you for your help in advance.

I haven't personally used it yet, though I'm probably going to get one when I build my computer in the next month or so. In terms of mic quality, though, there's a section of audio at 3:30 in the review video (linked here) which is recorded with the modmic (you also get to see Linus' amazing dance moves).

There's also a couple of sound bytes over on sound cloud here comparing the modmic with the mic on the Audio Technica ATH-AG1 headset, which weighs in over $250.

Also for comparison is the mic the rest of the review is recorded with, which we are told costs around $600.

I highly recommend the Audio Technica ATHAG1's I love them more than my m50x's and my 598SE's. Plus the come with a USB DAC/AMP and one of the best sounding integrated mic's I've ever used/seen. Linus has a review of them here If you guys want to know any thing else about them let me know. I picked mine up a year ago and couldn't be happier :)

Depending on what you get quoted for, these might be another option.
