I went on a short trip to West Africa (Benin) a couple months ago. I'm not sure which country you'll be in, but Benin is roughly 40% Muslim but many women there (non-Muslim) wear tank tops with their skirts and have no issues. I'm sure you've done your research on the country you are going to, but just wanted to flag that it may not necessarily be the norm to be completely covered if the country isn't 100% Muslim!

As for packing, maxi skirts are your best friend. I ordered just one of these simple skirts and wore it a ton. It was in the 80s and 90s when I was there and I never felt too hot in it. For tops, I mainly wore very lightweight button-downs (I was there for work so I still had to look somewhat business casual) but I would recommend lighter t-shirts and blouses. You may also want to invest in a pair of insect-repellent pants - I did not pack them because I went during the dry season, but as you will be there for an extended period they will likely come in handy.

Other than that, I would really take advantage of making some skirts from the local fabrics - I was so disappointed that I never got the chance to buy any as I think they are so beautiful! I am jealous you will have the opportunity to do so!

*Quick edit just on a note about being in a Muslim country: Be prepared for the 4 AM calls to prayer! The first night it really freaked me out, but after a couple days I found it to actually be soothing and very beautiful and it didn't interrupt my sleep as much.
