I went on a short trip to West Africa (Benin) a couple months ago. I'm not sure which country you'll be in, but Benin is roughly 40% Muslim but many women there (non-Muslim) wear tank tops with their skirts and have no issues. I'm sure you've done your research on the country you are going to, but just wanted to flag that it may not necessarily be the norm to be completely covered if the country isn't 100% Muslim!

As for packing, maxi skirts are your best friend. I ordered just one of these simple skirts and wore it a ton. It was in the 80s and 90s when I was there and I never felt too hot in it. For tops, I mainly wore very lightweight button-downs (I was there for work so I still had to look somewhat business casual) but I would recommend lighter t-shirts and blouses. You may also want to invest in a pair of insect-repellent pants - I did not pack them because I went during the dry season, but as you will be there for an extended period they will likely come in handy.

Other than that, I would really take advantage of making some skirts from the local fabrics - I was so disappointed that I never got the chance to buy any as I think they are so beautiful! I am jealous you will have the opportunity to do so!

*Quick edit just on a note about being in a Muslim country: Be prepared for the 4 AM calls to prayer! The first night it really freaked me out, but after a couple days I found it to actually be soothing and very beautiful and it didn't interrupt my sleep as much.

Getting a bit ahead of myself, but with the above-freezing temperatures this week, I can't help thinking ahead to summer. Last summer, on super hot days, I wore this skirt with a striped or solid color tank top and a black or gray cardigan. I am a grad student and I work in a lab, it's pretty casual, but I am also trying to start dressing a bit more 'responsible adult' and less 'lazy student.' I really like the skirt because it's super comfy, it's loose and lightweight without being see-through, and, at knee length, I feel like I can wear it in lab without tights or leggings and still be appropriate. The fold-over waist is a bit schlubby, though, and I only have the one skirt in black (!) so I was hoping to get a few more, something similar in maybe a dark gray or a dark pattern of some sort, but it's hard finding a-line jersey skirts of this sort that aren't, well, a bit schlubby, c.f. this one, I like the gray color, the length, and the slightly more structured waistband, but the exposed seams are a bit more casual than what I am ideally looking for. Anyone have any pointers?

If she has a favorite candy, that's always a good choice. Flowers can be cheesy and are a little overrated IMO, but if she likes things on the sappier, more classical side, you can go for that, too. As far as cat skirts go, this looks good if she's into skirts on the shorter side, or if she prefers longer ones, I think this and the available variations look pretty dope. And of course, if you really want to impress her, you can always go the 'ol Lonely Island route and give her your dick in a box, which will inevitably result in a BJ with a 100% success rate. /s Good luck!

An a-line skirt could be good? Something like this and cheap fishnets were my partner's first 2 women's items (bought as a joke gift at least a year before she figured out she was trans, life is interesting). The skirt is still a favorite though. She'll wear it with t-shirts (sometimes unisex she bought before, sometimes mine or new shirts of hers) and no matter what it's cute. Also lipstick is a classic. Knee high socks and wide neck sweaters are super cute and comfy, especially if you live somewhere where it's getting cold now. Good luck!

  1. I have so many things on my wishlist! If I had to choose it would either be this awesome Disney wall art to hang up, this chalkboard, or this cute skirt to twirl around in

  2. I have gifted!

  3. /u/puppies_and_unicorns should be gifted cause when I was feeling down they gifted me the cutest stuffed animal to make me feel better!

  4. I like seeing your cat snaps, as they are adorable. Do you like Disney movies? If you do, what's your absolute favorite?

  5. You're a babe!

I don't get to dress up like I like to - because I work with preschoolers.... and dresses and 2-4 year olds just don't mix ...

That being said I love these twenty five yard skirts I own two of them and they are amazingly fun!

This Dare to Wear look amazing, and my partner ordered me one for Christmas but it hasn't arrived yet - I can let you know how it turns out!

I also love Vintage style Dresses I am almost down to the size where I want to dress up in them ... but they are so pretty!

Harem pants are the bees knees my friend.

Amazon has lots of different styles too

I tried to link to fitting colors

I know they're pants not a skirt but they breath like one and they're sooo comfy I thought I'd suggest them anyways, especially with all the cute patterns.

Here's a cute elephant tie skirt

A nice plain olive skirt

A mildly colored floral skirt

white lace off shoulder boho top

off shoulder boho blouse solid tone

Cropped off shoulder

I'd love to bring back the flowy maxi skirts like this (that example is dramatic but you get the idea) that were in style maybe ten years ago, and lose the rayon knit maxis we have now. And vests, shirts/vests with corsetry details, mary jane shoes, and more Victorian-looking stuff in general. I am seeing more purple stuff in stores now, so at least that wish of mine has been granted--purple's the best color after black, it shouldn't disappear for cycles on end.

I don't actually have trends I want to forever die--I just want to be able to find things I like no matter what the hot trend of the moment is. I like looking at an old photo and instantly knowing the era it was taken.

so it seems to split between pretty cheap imported skirts that you can get from any where... like this and this and this that might be worth a try but might look cheap. the other (better, imo) option is handmade from etsy. then you can get exactly what you want! I found several vendors who seem to make custom formal skirts- chiffon maxi, another option or a satin option. most of them would do a custom order if you are looking for something very specific. good luck!

H&M is surprisingly good at business wear stuff. Here's their entire officewear section. I particularly liked this cute striped top.

Pencil skirts are always great for the office, and here's a couple of cute cheap ones on Amazon.

I've never liked dresses, but I do like skirts, and this one is really pretty. It's on my girly stuff wishlist.

If you want to help me find a dress, I'm cool with that. I have a wedding to go to next month anyway, so I need something...

Oh! This is exciting to me because I recently did a Forest Nymph shoot and it was SO much fun!

Here are some of my photos. Credit: Sam Peagler

And here are some suggestions:

  1. Skirt that I used
This was great because it is long, flowy, and very versatile. You could even pull it up higher and use it as a full dress.

  2. Moss. We just took this moss and glued it on my chest with some kind of makeup glue. It came off pretty easily. Then we used this leftover mesh and lots of makeup to complete the look.

I had a makeup artist do my hair, but you could easily get a crown if you don't think you can do the crazy hair(she just teased it and put a sponge on top of my head to give it heighth, then added twigs from the yard). Crown Option

Thank you so much for the contest!! I really want to see your results!!!

Maxi skirts and dresses are awesome for hot weather! If you can find ones that are 100% cotton, they'll be the most breezy. Like this. It would look cute with just a basic tank top. You could throw a thick belt in there if you're into accessories. this pinboard has a nice variety of hot weather outfit suggestions.

So I got super obsessed with skirts after creep-stalking through all of the WAYWT. I thought that Modcloth's Breathtaking Tiger Lilies would be the easiest to style but I kept waffling on that damn $50 price, so I fished through amazon and came up with Breathtaking Tiger Lilies Dupe? Some of them are prime, some of them aren't , I think due to stock but? Anyways, I got it yesterday and am wearing it today and am quite happy. We'll see how wrinkled it gets, though. Maybe I'll post my first WAYWT with this outfit next week!

I bought this skirt from Amazon a couple of weeks ago and LOVE it. It’s a nice heavy material (with pockets!) that looks way more expensive than it is IMO. I’m planning on building a collection of them in different colors and patterns, because I also live in A-line skirts. The price ranges from $10-21 USD depending on the color.

I can’t tell how much of a “mermaid” style this is, but if it’s right through the waist and you only want “poof” and volume at the bottom try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074Q9DF33/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_-1wADbG2TX1BS

Also check out your local seamstress! They are wizards with stuff like this

One thing I didn't notice at first that I hope won't become a problem, there's no hem on the bottom edge. Hopefully it won't start to fray or roll up!

Looks like the Horsehead Nebula is one there too. Both in the evening sky at this time of year :-)
