They also have the multi cable organizers as well, like this one, but since you want to conceal your cables that may not suit you.
I think your idea can work. There are also these types of runways, where you have many points of entry/exit holes for your wires. But this may be too big for on top of the desk.
I think a laptop stand may also help with getting the cables routed in one spot.
