  1. I've never bought a pair of cleats. Ever. I still have it on my list after years and years. Would I like to? Sure. But I'm cheap and lazy and I've never done it and haven't needed to, although once or twice I do wish I had waterproof shoes while walking a course. Though I'm sure your shoes could get wet playing flag football too.
  2. Starter Clubs
  3. What courses and practice ranges are you going to honestly!? County courses by me are like $15 to golf 9 holes if you walk, which I often do. Less than that if you go for discounts and specials, which I don't really becasue I don't golf super frequently and can't be bothered to hunt deals! But you absolutely can. No one pays $200 even for 18 holes every time they golf, especially if they are not a good golfer. You maybe do that once just so you can say you played the PGA-level course that happens to be near you. Even if you don't want to carry your clubs, add on one of these for not much.
  4. Maintain club membership... this is not a requirement to golf. There are tons of cheap amateur leagues for people who just want to play. And lots of public courses. This is not some elite professional organization you need to pay dues to. Do you want to know what my handicap is? I can't honestly tell you because I don't know. I take the good shots when I can get them, rehit the particularly bad ones and kick the mediocre ones so I have a decent lie. Very few people who play golf play by the strict rules of golf.

I'm not going to say you are completely wrong, because you aren't but you are absolutely NOT representing the situation fairly or honestly. I very much doubt you are playing flag football at the level to which you are comparing this hypothetical golfer.

And this is part of the reason why everyone thinks that golf is "for rich people." It can be... like any other hobby with rich people that burn money on it.
