If you want to make life a little less expensive, brush and bathe the pets frequently (I wouldn't advise this with the cat). You can create your own pet odor remover with white vinegar, water and essential oils. Use lavender, lemon, citronella, sage/clary sage, bergamot, cedarwood, lemon eucalyptus, lemongrass, peppermint, geranium, sweet orange, and rosemary. You don't need to use them all, but a mix that pleases your nose and be sure to include peppermint (geranium is great too) you'll get the benefit of getting deterring of fleas, ticks, spiders, other bugs and rodents. Mist the carpet and furniture. You can use this spray to wipe down their kennels too.
These mats are awesome and really do hold the dirt and dust. You'll find a similar product at Costco sometimes and they're worth it. Put them by the front door, dog door, back doors.
For the cats, scoopable litter in a large storage bin. I have a lidded, 30 gallon bin for my two. I cut an entry door on the end from the top/lip down, leaving about 5 inches for litter and replaced the lid. It keeps the dust down. I also put one of those mats and plus the clear, plastic, carpet runner protector at the entry. I fill with litter and it lasts forever. Scoop at least weekly. You don't have to dump the entire box all the time. I use the Scoop Away from Costco.
For the outdoor kennel/dog run or areas that they frequent, you can use the spray to wash out adding a little Dawn dish detergent. Lime for rocky/dirt areas. To remove odors after picking up solids. I don't recommend in grass or planted areas.
