I'll try to keep tabs on everything but let me know if there are any errors or price updates. And as a side note, I'm actually getting downvotes for this? I can't see how there could possibly be a sane explanation for that.

EDIT: Updated 7:00pm EST!! Let me know if there's anything you see and I'll put it in here!

EDIT: I've put everything new as of Jan 11, 4:00pm in bold. Also, check this post on RedFlagDeals for a great big list of deal

EDIT: Its all over everyhone. Hope you snagged something cool beyond bitter disappointment this year!**

If he doesn't have one already, a mechanical keyboard would be a great gift. They can be a bit pricey, but you can get one for ~100 dollars that is pretty decent; it'll making typing a much nicer experience. Specifically, I'd look for any keyboard which has "Cherry MX Brown" or "Cherry MX Blue" switches. The key switch determines how the keyboard feels, and how loud it is.

I have blues at home and browns for my keyboard at work and both options are solid. I prefer blues myself but they are loud, Browns feel similar but they don't have an audible click so they are much quieter.

Be wary of "like-mechanical" keyboard, that are basically just expensive membrane keyboard that try and mimic the mechanical feel.

Here are two pretty good options to get you started:

Look for a major brand like Corsair with real Cherry MX keys like on a K70 LUX which I love :

I have the Corsair K70 with blues, and find it to be satisfying, but too loud. If you like the Corsair software options, here's an RGB version with MX Browns which would seem to fit the bill quite nicely.

u/raoasidg · 1 pointr/wow

I use this one at work:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ER4B7YM

The brown switches are quieter and the build quality has been pretty great.
[edit] I also agree with the Razor sentiment--stay away. Their build quality is not good.

I've really been considering the corsair K70 RBG. It is a little pricier, and that is why I haven't bit the bullet yet. Trying to convince my wife that I "need" it for school. Any thoughts about it? Are there keyboards leagues ahead for the same price? I do prefer more of the modern look than the old retro IBM look so far (I'm easily convinced at this point though, there are some really neat boards with the custom keys, but I won't be putting in that type of money for some while).

I do want a full board with keypad. I've always had it, so it is convenient.

TBH, unless you're playing at a very high level, literally anything will do. Because I use my computer for basically everything in my life (I'm a CS Major at Uni) I've put a little more money into my keyboard than I'd recommend for basically anyone. You'd be fine with a basic membrane keyboard/laser mouse.

I'm personally running a corsair k70 keyboard with brown switches and a logitech g502 mouse, with Corsair VOID's as my headset. As much as I love my keyboard, mouse, and headset, let me say this in no uncertain terms: There is absolutely no reason to spend 250 dollars out the gate on peripherals. A lot of local stores (best buy I know has a couple) have little shelves in the gaming peripherals aisle where you can try things out. But you could seriously just use the standard dell membrane keyboard and laser mouse. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but I seriously recommend just getting your basic office keyboard/a decently comfortable mouse

u/hurrimmanobody · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm having difficulty choosing my first mechanical keyboard. I was set on getting Corsair but now I'm back and forth between a couple at the moment, but still considering/open to some others. Using with a Mac but building my PC soon (just FYI).

I understand the dislike of Corsair and Razer due to the non-standard bottom row. However, I do like the dedicated media keys and the use of software to control the RGB is great, but suppose they aren't necessary.

Ideally, I would like an RGB keyboard and think I'm settled on brown switches. Media keys could be with a function key and not dedicated. And still kind of not sure about needing a full sized keyboard, but thinking I do want to have the arrow keys which is why I chose the MK Disco and iKBC.

u/craptheb00zeout · 1 pointr/amazon

If you're looking for a mechanical keyboard, the Corsair K70 RGB is going for $109.99 right now for the next 14 hours or so. there's a post on /r/buildapcsales with pretty good reviews of it.

u/Majestic_Toilet · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Thinking of getting a Corsair RGB K70 with Cherry MX Brown switches and had a quick question; is there literally any difference between these the two products listed on amazon? Because one's ten bucks cheaper and to me, that counts.

https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlit/dp/B01ER4B7YM

https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Gaming-Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlit/dp/B014W1Z4LC - ($10 cheaper than the first one)

u/Kidneybot · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I've been looking to get a new keyboard for ages and as someone extremely picky, I finally found a keyboard that does it all, the Corsair K70 LUX. The problem is, it looks like it's impossible to get it with blue MX switches. Which really sucks because everything else about it is great. Does anyone know of any similar keyboards? I would like dedicated media keys, clicky switches, and RGB lighting.

u/Pianoman369 · 1 pointr/buildapc

This may be a better question for r/mechanicalkeyboards however they didn't seem to have as much Q&A functionality as this sub does.

I'm looking to buy a Corsair Gaming K70 LUX RGB Mechanical Keyboard (link below) but I'm unsure of which keyboard style I should get. I went to Best Buy and was able to try the K65 in a Cherry MX Red version of a different Corsair keyboard and liked the feel and sound of it, but in research have read that the MX Browns are even quieter. Since there wasn't an MX Brown available for trial in stores I've visited I haven't been able to get any hands on experience to compare different types.

I'm looking for anyone with experience between the different versions of mechanical keyboards and how the sounds vary between the stealthier versions of mechanical keyboards like Blue and Brown. Ideally I would like to buy the quietest keyboard that also still has a good level of depression and 'feel' to pressing each key as it will be used for both work and gaming. What would be your recommendation that I should get knowing the information above?

Many thanks in advance for any replies or information.
