I like his commentary a lot and I think he has huge potential, so here a few little things that he could improve:

• Get a widescreen monitor. 4:3 is very offputting if you're watching it on 16:9/16:10. I personally like the newer IPS panels, but an average TN will suffice.
  
• Buy a better mic. The audio quality is very important if you are doing a lot of commentary and the average headset one isn't good enough most of the time. A lot of streamers/casters use this one since it's rather cheap, solid quality and looks awesome
  
• Adjust your webcam angle and position. The image should contain mainly your upper body and your face while the camera is placed on the same level as your head or shoulders like this. Basically you want to give the viewer the impression that he is sitting right in front of you since it helps with presenting your personality and content. If you need a decent webcam with better quality and a better stand a lot of streamers use this one.

It's only 23" but its 1920x1080 and IPS, I grabbed mine each used for about $100 off ebay.

I found that same monitor for cheaper here and there is a big review of it here. Although it does look fine I would keep looking around this subreddit myself as it has limited connectivity options and no mounting options if ever needed.

EDIT: Also for 1080p, the quality starts to droop off once you go past 23" I believe, so that monitor /u/Meowdave posted wouldn't be the best 1080p option.

If you want to go down the dual monitor route then two of these Dell 24" 1920 by 1200 monitors that takes you slightly over budget or if you wanted to go underbudget you could get two of these Dell 23" 1920 by 1080 IPS monitors. They are both IPS panels so they have great colours and you have the option to put them in portrait mode. I used to have one in landscape and the other in portrait for pdf's and iTunes.

I would stay away from buying another TV, unless you are sitting quite far from it they are generally a bad choice. It would be quite cool to wall mount your TV above the 2 monitors and use it for movies or console gaming. Good luck!

You are going to need to choose between ips and 120hz at that price range. Dell makes some great ips panels like this one. Otherwise you can look at a TN panel for faster refresh rates. I know this asus is highly recommended on here. Either are great options around your price range. Read up on reviews and just pick one. Good Luck!

One of the single best picks at that price range would be the Dell U2312HM 23" IPS. It isn't going to be a wide gamut monitor as it is an 8 bit (6-Bit + FRC) panel. It isn't going to be the greatest monitor, especially for photo work, but it is pretty much the best you are going to get sub $200.

Thankfully, however, TFTCentral actually happens to have a color correct ICC profile for this exact monitor. Although it isn't 100% perfect as monitors can vary in terms of color reproduction monitor to monitor, it will be close enough for you to do some "color critical" work, i.e. photo editing.

If you are interested in figuring out what panel is used in the Dell, this (LM230WF3-SLD1) is the panel used in it.

I'm not that good with monitors, but people usually go for something that has IPS. Something in the $200-250 range would probably be good. 23 inches is fine tho (make sure the resolution matches up to the size if you go bigger though)

I have a couple of these and I have no problem in first person shooters. I play everything from Battlefield 4 to Destiny and COD and have a solid k/d in all of them.

You'll be golden with a 5ms response time. It sure beats the hell out of a living room TV!

I'm a big fan of this, although you are paying for the swivel stand(which is top notch) This monitor has extremely low input lag which makes it great for gaming. Oh and IPS is great.

Is this a good monitor for photo editing? From the research I did it seems to reproduce colors good, has a decent resolution, IPS, and is cheap. I currently own a Dell XPS 15 (L501X) with a horrendous monitor (1366x768, everything looks purple, horrible viewing angles, colors don't "pop"), but I can't afford a new laptop/desktop. I just want an aid for my laptop, and quite frankly it performs fine. It's just the display that sucks.

Depends on your definition of quality. Anything under $200 will be a 6-bit TN panel. My definition of quality is an IPS panel so you would need to spend at least around $200+ for a "quality" 1080p monitor.

I have no link to this bundle, sorry. I am not from the US so I am not perfectly informed about them cause it's (sadly) irrelevant for me. Your build looks very good. I've never heard about the brand auria but that doesn't mean it's a bad monitor. Amazon has the Dell U2312m Monitor for about 220$ if you want to go with this one.

The monitor I had been looking at was one that I had seen linked on r/buildapc before: the 23" Dell U2312HM. Does anyone have any comments on this? Is the $223 pricetag disproportionate for a $1200 total budget?

Dell ultrasharps are around $220 on amazon. But your best bet for a budget build would be getting an active display-port to HDMI/DVI adapter.

This will not only handle CSGO but the likes of GTA or Witcher on pretty high settings also... unfortunately a first hand monitor would mean going a few dollars over budget (I have listed a few below), though the $65 remaining could fetch something pretty solid on ebay.

Two ways to go

120HZ 24in monitor

or 23inch IPS

The 120hz is good for fluidity in games that you can get more than 40fps in, while the eIPS has more accurate color representation.

Also the 120hz can eventually be used as a 3d monitor

You could also get a 27 inch monitor but i feel that 23-24 is a more ideal size for me, this may be different to you.

If you will actually take advantage of the 120 Hz monitor, then go for it.

If no, this monitor looks a lot better.

The Cooler Master GX series is pretty atrocious stuff (and you're buying a fairly low wattage as well, considering what a powerhungry card the 7870 XT is), I'd strongly recommend avoiding those little firework boxes if at all possible. Go with something slightly more reliable like a Corsair CX 500W at the very least. If you want to splurge a tiny bit more, the Rosewill Hive 650W it a fantastic deal. Just don't go for the Cooler Master.

The Pro3 isn't really up to scratch if you want to be over-clocking the CPU either. I'd recommend either a Biostar TZ77XE3 or a Gigabyte UD3H, whichever your budget allows for!

The best monitor in your situation I think would be the Dell U2312HM. It's a little more than the AOC, but you get a much nicer IPS panel (much better than the TN panel you've chosen) as well as a fantastic stand.

I am an avid gamer and play multiple games(FPS's) where input lag/GTG time is crucial, and have not noticed any significant setbacks. It's an IPS panel, so color rendition and accuracy are awesome. It's well built, and can rotate from the stand, flip, and rotate from landscape to horizontal.

I find I end up with a lot of eye fatigue after using the computer for a long time.

If you are using OSX one thing you can do is turn on negative viewing mode with the following keys.

Control + Option + Command + 8

If you have no issues with fatigue and just want a bigger screen, there are different types of IPS with matte and glossy finishes. Choose depending on your environment.

I have this monitor and I like it very much. Reasonably priced, mounting options, adjustment options, etc etc.
It is a matte screen in case your reading environment is very bright.
The monitor itself is pretty bright out of the box.

Although if you are just using it for reading I'm sure you could go much cheaper.

I dont know what program you use for modelling, but i would say you should go NVIDIA if it is Blender and possible some other tools.
You should also go for a 4gb gpu so you render faster.
