I like his commentary a lot and I think he has huge potential, so here a few little things that he could improve:
If you have trouble with funding your hardware I'm sure redditors will be glad to help you out a bit.
This is an incredibly poor "deal." It's only about 5% off.
CamelCamelCamel.com tracks prices for us and we can clearly see that this is only ~ $10. You can get it for $180 through 3rd party vendors on Amazon even.
I feel like I sound like a broken tape recorder mentioning this monitor on this sub but I have 3x of the Asus VS239H-P
It's only 23" but its 1920x1080 and IPS, I grabbed mine each used for about $100 off ebay.
A couple other options are the very popular Dell UltraSharp U2312HM at the same specs
Or a couple of "slim-bezel" monitors with the same specs as well that are both IPS are AOC's version and Acer's version. Slightly different but they use the same panel
Keep in mind these are all also below $200 (usually around $150) which would save you're friend some cash to throw into parts instead and
You can get a great high quality Dell IPS monitor for a little under $190. http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC
That would be the U2312HM. I have the same monitor, it's great. I'm thinking of picking up a second one.
Save up for a little longer and get any of the dell IPS line. They frequently go on sale for around $200. This 23" was on sale for right at $200 the other day.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005LN1JEC
It is slightly more now at $215, but just wait for a sale. IPS will be a huge improvement over TN and well worth it.
I found that same monitor for cheaper here and there is a big review of it here. Although it does look fine I would keep looking around this subreddit myself as it has limited connectivity options and no mounting options if ever needed.
EDIT: Also for 1080p, the quality starts to droop off once you go past 23" I believe, so that monitor /u/Meowdave posted wouldn't be the best 1080p option.
EDIT EDIT: Here are a few more options on the IPS side that are within the 1080p size limit :
ASUS VS239H-P
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236288
LG 23EA53V-P

Dell UltraSharp U2312HM

Dell S2340L

Acer H236HLbid
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009483
Hopefully one of these would suffice. I think I would personally prefer the Dell UltraSharp U2312HM out of the list, but that's just me.
I would recommend the Dell Ultrasharp 23"
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1348021565&sr=8-2&keywords=Dell+UltraSharp+U2312M+23-inch+Monitor+w%2FLED
High quality, 4 USB ports, IPS, super thin bezel. Or the Asus Pro Art 23"
perfect your girlfriends needs, as well as good enough for gaming :D
http://www.asus.com/Display/LCD_Monitors/PA238Q/
If you want to go down the dual monitor route then two of these Dell 24" 1920 by 1200 monitors that takes you slightly over budget or if you wanted to go underbudget you could get two of these Dell 23" 1920 by 1080 IPS monitors. They are both IPS panels so they have great colours and you have the option to put them in portrait mode. I used to have one in landscape and the other in portrait for pdf's and iTunes.
I would stay away from buying another TV, unless you are sitting quite far from it they are generally a bad choice. It would be quite cool to wall mount your TV above the 2 monitors and use it for movies or console gaming. Good luck!
I run 16:9, and while more vertical space could be nice, I enjoy full HD a lot more. If youre interested in 16:9 but in need of a lot of vertical space, you could try a rotating monitor like this
You are going to need to choose between ips and 120hz at that price range. Dell makes some great ips panels like this one. Otherwise you can look at a TN panel for faster refresh rates. I know this asus is highly recommended on here. Either are great options around your price range. Read up on reviews and just pick one. Good Luck!
$209 on amazon.

Dell has a 23 inch ips monitor with a vesa mount, U2312HM.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005LN1JEC
One of the single best picks at that price range would be the Dell U2312HM 23" IPS. It isn't going to be a wide gamut monitor as it is an 8 bit (6-Bit + FRC) panel. It isn't going to be the greatest monitor, especially for photo work, but it is pretty much the best you are going to get sub $200.
Thankfully, however, TFTCentral actually happens to have a color correct ICC profile for this exact monitor. Although it isn't 100% perfect as monitors can vary in terms of color reproduction monitor to monitor, it will be close enough for you to do some "color critical" work, i.e. photo editing.
The link for the ICC Profile for the Dell U2312HM: Link
That link also has a guide on how to install an ICC color profile for your monitor.
If you are interested in figuring out what panel is used in the Dell, this (LM230WF3-SLD1) is the panel used in it.
I'm not that good with monitors, but people usually go for something that has IPS. Something in the $200-250 range would probably be good. 23 inches is fine tho (make sure the resolution matches up to the size if you go bigger though)
Personally I like the Dell Ultrasharp
You can try asking over at /r/monitors
Any monitor can be calibrated through software with a proper colorimeter.
Without a price range its difficult to recommend a monitor, but this one is one of the cheapest I can recommend that is suitable for your use.
Right on. Those both look like killer models. Nice thin bezels!
I have a couple of these and I have no problem in first person shooters. I play everything from Battlefield 4 to Destiny and COD and have a solid k/d in all of them.
You'll be golden with a 5ms response time. It sure beats the hell out of a living room TV!
The monitors are 23" Dell IPS panels: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC . I bought them a few years back, but they're not great for gaming now that I've got a 2060. :(

The desk has had a couple previous owners, and I think it was made somewhere in Wisconsin.
I'm a big fan of this, although you are paying for the swivel stand(which is top notch) This monitor has extremely low input lag which makes it great for gaming. Oh and IPS is great.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395458262&sr=8-1&keywords=+U2312HM
Review: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2312hm.htm
I'd reccomend this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005LN1JEC/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?tag=pcpapi-20
That's a pretty good price for a 23' IPS and by far the nicest monitor I've ever owned.
How about a ~210 display
About 230 in the end.
One more question, do you know what's a good duel monitor stand for that monitor and this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LN1JEC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which is my current monitor.
I need a new monitor. Mine just died today. What are some good monitors for $200 or less?
Here's the one that died today.
Yeah I'll have to take my rig back when i start school in the fall so this will save me some hassle. With your recommendations I think I'll go with a...
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 Mid Tower USB 3.0 Gaming Case - White - $84.99
GPU: Powercolor Radeon HD 7870 Myst edition - $229.99
Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2312HM - $197.99
Grand Total - $512.97. I've heard good things about that monitor and think it'll be worth the extra $13. Thanks WHY111, I really appreciate it
23" IPS monitor

I have surround sound speakers that I'm going to use for audio. I decided to buy the Dell U2312HM. My Xbox is currently hooked up to a 32" TV, but I wanted to change my setup around, so if I still feel like doing so, I'll just buy a separate 22-24" TV. The Dell U2312HM is currently $95.94 off on Amazon, so I guess I'd recommend it.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347132329&sr=8-1&keywords=Dell+U2312HM
I use this one http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC
It's pretty good for xbox gaming. If you want to do some PC gaming on it too i'd recommend that you get a 120Hz+ monitor though
Oh boy, the Dell U2312HM is my dream monitor. You should check it out.
If you can't find one of these
Or one of these
On sale at around the same price. The LG is just as good.
Did some quick looking and came up with a potential monitor for you, it's from the US Newegg site so I'm not sure through what method you'd obtain it but the site has the model number and you can try to find it on your particular choice of electronic shopping site.
Asus 23 inch low grey to grey response
Dell 23 inch IPS monitor with amazing input response time
For under $200 this Dell would be great, http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375402915&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+u2312hm
How's this for a monitor?
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005LN1JEC/?tag=pcpapi-20
nevermind ms is too high
Is this a good monitor for photo editing? From the research I did it seems to reproduce colors good, has a decent resolution, IPS, and is cheap. I currently own a Dell XPS 15 (L501X) with a horrendous monitor (1366x768, everything looks purple, horrible viewing angles, colors don't "pop"), but I can't afford a new laptop/desktop. I just want an aid for my laptop, and quite frankly it performs fine. It's just the display that sucks.
Nope right now it's discounted to $205 w/ Prime rather than $209 for the U2212HM. Odd.
Depends on your definition of quality. Anything under $200 will be a 6-bit TN panel. My definition of quality is an IPS panel so you would need to spend at least around $200+ for a "quality" 1080p monitor.
This is the lowest quality and cheapest "quality" panel I like:
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC/ref=pd_cp_pc_3
I have no link to this bundle, sorry. I am not from the US so I am not perfectly informed about them cause it's (sadly) irrelevant for me. Your build looks very good. I've never heard about the brand auria but that doesn't mean it's a bad monitor. Amazon has the Dell U2312m Monitor for about 220$ if you want to go with this one.
The monitor I had been looking at was one that I had seen linked on r/buildapc before: the 23" Dell U2312HM. Does anyone have any comments on this? Is the $223 pricetag disproportionate for a $1200 total budget?
Dell ultrasharps are around $220 on amazon. But your best bet for a budget build would be getting an active display-port to HDMI/DVI adapter.
I actually just took a look at my current Monitor and that damn thing is IPS aswell, so now im worried!
Should i just suck it up and buy a [ASUS Rog Swift?](https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B017EVR2VM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480444185&sr=8- 1&keywords=ASUS%2BROG%2BSWIFT%2BPG279Q&th=1) because I would rather avoid the bleed that turns out to be quite normal apparently? Any thoughts?

I know you already got an offer for a monitor but I figured I would post a few I've got lying around in case you want options. I'm in Torrance.
24" Viewsonic 1920x1080 - $60
23" Dell IPS 1920x1080 - $100

and, if you're willing to spend a bit more:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005LN1JEC/?tag=pcpapi-20
Asus and Dell are generally great at your price range.
I'm not sure what you mean by that.
But what I do know is that I ordered a ASUS VG248QE 24
and I currently have DELL LED 23" U2312HM X 3
This is my Display Port
I have 4 Ports behind on my graphics card, Display Port, HDMI , DVI x2
The DVI cables I'm using or some generic ones that came with the monitor.
Someone on Tomshardware told me that a MST only works with the same kind of monitor.
So far I've found this one http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21310199872227
It's on Amazon and it's in the low-200s price-wise http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393825531&sr=8-1&keywords=DELL+U2312HM
I know someone who works for Viewsonic and she's recommending I get the VG2439M http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VG2439M-LED-24-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B008CJ1UV4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393825618&sr=8-1&keywords=VG2439
But it's not an IPS screen, so I'm guessing it won't look as nice? Anyone have any thoughts?
Definitely!
I own a U2312HM and I love it. Great for gaming and has crisp colours!
Also you can score one for under $200 from Amazon if you live in the U.S.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC
Two ways to go
120HZ 24in monitor
or 23inch IPS
The 120hz is good for fluidity in games that you can get more than 40fps in, while the eIPS has more accurate color representation.
Also the 120hz can eventually be used as a 3d monitor
You could also get a 27 inch monitor but i feel that 23-24 is a more ideal size for me, this may be different to you.
If you will actually take advantage of the 120 Hz monitor, then go for it.
If no, this monitor looks a lot better.
The Cooler Master GX series is pretty atrocious stuff (and you're buying a fairly low wattage as well, considering what a powerhungry card the 7870 XT is), I'd strongly recommend avoiding those little firework boxes if at all possible. Go with something slightly more reliable like a Corsair CX 500W at the very least. If you want to splurge a tiny bit more, the Rosewill Hive 650W it a fantastic deal. Just don't go for the Cooler Master.
The Pro3 isn't really up to scratch if you want to be over-clocking the CPU either. I'd recommend either a Biostar TZ77XE3 or a Gigabyte UD3H, whichever your budget allows for!
The best monitor in your situation I think would be the Dell U2312HM. It's a little more than the AOC, but you get a much nicer IPS panel (much better than the TN panel you've chosen) as well as a fantastic stand.
Otherwise solid build.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC
I have three Dell U2312HMs http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC and they are absolutely wonderful. I am an avid gamer and play multiple games(FPS's) where input lag/GTG time is crucial, and have not noticed any significant setbacks. It's an IPS panel, so color rendition and accuracy are awesome. It's well built, and can rotate from the stand, flip, and rotate from landscape to horizontal.

Pretty sure they still sell U2312HM.
I find I end up with a lot of eye fatigue after using the computer for a long time.
If you are using OSX one thing you can do is turn on negative viewing mode with the following keys.
Control + Option + Command + 8
If you have no issues with fatigue and just want a bigger screen, there are different types of IPS with matte and glossy finishes. Choose depending on your environment.
I have this monitor and I like it very much. Reasonably priced, mounting options, adjustment options, etc etc.
It is a matte screen in case your reading environment is very bright.
The monitor itself is pretty bright out of the box.
Although if you are just using it for reading I'm sure you could go much cheaper.
I dont know what program you use for modelling, but i would say you should go NVIDIA if it is Blender and possible some other tools.
You should also go for a 4gb gpu so you render faster.
Also take a IPS DELL for cheap money.
http://www.amazon.de/Dell-U2212HM-LED-Monitor-Reaktionszeit-schwarz/dp/B005LN1JEC
You can get it from here for a very reasonable price. http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC
always go for the most common resolution which is 1080p atm. cheap and avg video card today drive it fine. yes ips 1080p is cheap
you are paying a heck more just for just about the same PPI.
27" 1440p = 108.79 PPI
22" 1080p = 100.13 PPI
so the increased "sharpness" is just bullshit
for the price of 1 1440p, you can have 3 ips 1080p. it is nice having a stream on one screen, game on another, and reddit on another. I have 3 of those
bigger numbers = e-peen always
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC
Amazon is showing 309.00 right now. If you can show me another place where it is cheaper I can re-adjust
