as I understand it, Deep Note shows up in a 1983 demo CD released in called The Digital Domain.
It was generated by a C program written by Dr. James A. Moorer when he was working for Lucasfilm. Its first use was before "Return of the Jedi" as far as I know. IIRC, it was semi-random, and they recorded quite a few versions as it ran through the algorithm until they got one they liked.
The Digital Domain: A Demonstration. Used copies on Amazon seem pretty cheap.
Well, thanks for sharing!
Incidentally, the top reviewer on this Amazon page wrote the following about the jet engine sound you mentioned:
> To hear the water trickle, you have to turn the volume up quite a bit and when that jet flys by, the whole room started shaking and the windows rattled and I thought for a moment, a real Jet had just flown over my house! ... They should have put a warning label on it!
Some of these old demo CDs are damned impressive. I might have a go and order this one. :)
"The Digital Domain: A Demonstration", released in 1983 to show off the features of this new fangled CD format. Bought in when it came out, a week before I dropped hundreds on my first CD player, a Sony CDP101.
