If it makes you feel better, no one ever taught me about beard growth or how suits should fit or stuff like that. I've just figured it all out for myself in the past few years. Get yourself some beard balm/oil like this or this, and also a boars hair brush like this. Use the balm/oil while it's still just slightly damp after the shower, followed by a brushing after. Your beard will soon be a thing of manly silkiness. Here's style and trimming maintenance.

Hello beard friend. I will recommend a product to you. Amazon carries a Hair Mask product. Pure Body Naturals Hair Mask https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N5M26PI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Use it up to twice a week, it will soften and make your beard hair silky and so damn soft. Its the ultimate conditioner for hair.
Also, beard oil is your best friend. Use a high quality one. I recommend a simple one Leven Rose https://www.amazon.com/Leven-Rose-Fragrance-Leave-Conditioner/dp/B00IB6IAOS/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1497241471&sr=1-1&keywords=levenrose+beard+oil use it multiple times in a day. Your beard length 4-5 drops 2-3 times a day will keep it soft, supple and your skin under the beard quite happy. Good Luck Friend!

Bearded 19 year old here. Size is the same as this dude's beard. Having a beard is really high maintenance (well at least for me). If I don't take care of it for a week it will get out of control (it's funny because I'm not even hairy, like I don't even have any chest hair LOL).

I use natural beard oil so that I don't have any weird hairs sticking out. This is the one I use, it's freaking amazing. I put a few drops onto my palm, rub my hands together, and rub them gently into my beard and skin underneath the beard.

I have a really small beard brush that I keep with me in my backpack at school, because when I do wudu and wet my face I need to reshape my beard so that all the hairs are flowing in the same direction. It's really small and you can grip the entire thing with your hand.

I trim my beard every other day to make sure it looks really clean and sharp. I like to be well groomed so yeah, there's that.

Cedar beard oil

smells super good

I personally would check out /r/beards

I was wondering the same thing a while back when i wanted to grow mine out, mostly because im 33 and never had the chance to grow it out before, that is where i learned about bear oil, if you are persistent and use it regularly, it will actually get pretty soft. This is the stuff that i personally use, but there is a pretty big range of products with and without scents and extra vitamins to keep it healthy. If i grow mine out, i will wash my face every morning and evening with hot water, then put a couple of drops in between my fingers and thumb and stroke it into the hairs and repeat till you get all if not most of the hair. Before i started using it, i thought the oil might make my beard feel oily, but it doesn't, the hairs actually absorb it pretty well, but everybody has different genes and if it feels oily, it probably means you're using too much for your own and can probably use a dry towel to pat off any extra.

I use this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IB6IAOS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Seems to be one of the cheaper and good-working oils. Just need a few drops and run it through the beard to the skin, then use a beard brush and comb it all in.

Argan oil is popular along with Jojoba. There's a few others, but those are the main two.

My beard is very thick and sponge-like. It tamed it just a little bit and made it less scratchy. Also gives it a little bit of a shine.

u/mistergiantacorn · 2 pointsr/beards

I’ve started using this beard oil to help shape it and alleviate some dry skin issues I’ve had. I got this beard comb/brush set to help try to keep it somewhat tame.

I’ve only started recently trying to grow it out longer so still a work in progress! I have a Wahl trimmer I use to get any crazy hairs that don’t want to cooperate hah

I had a similar issue when I started dating a guy with a beard, mine was due to irritation from the rough ends of the hair rubbing my chin. He ended up buying a beard oil^(at my gentle suggestion), and when he uses that consistently I don't have as much of an issue! He bought this one, which is just a mixture of jojoba and argan oil, both ingredients that my skin doesn't mind. If your irritation continues, I would suggest giving it a try :)

I recently started using this beard oil. It has made my whiskers very soft...I like it.

u/Holovoid · 1 pointr/beards

My wife just bought me this beard oil and this beard shampoo for Christmas. I technically got it on the 21st, and have used it 3 times since then. Its already had a pretty positive effect on my fledgling beard. Made it a bit more shiny and a lot softer. Smells pretty good too.

The only issue I have is if you use too much of the oil it makes your beard smell a bit like movie theater popcorn (just oily smelling) but if you don't use too much its not bad.

u/IndustrialJones · 1 pointr/OkCupid

This is the one I'm using - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IB6IAOS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I put about 6-7 drops in my palm, run my hands through on the underside of my beard going out and another 5 drops and I work that on the outside and massage it all in thoroughly. Then I comb it out and it's not oily or anything.

The main thing I like is that there's no fragrance. I have a sensitive nose when it comes to fragrant stuff.

u/02139 · 1 pointr/BeardTalk

You should get an oil, wax, shampoo and a comb. I love the smell of this oil has a vanillay spicey smell that I love. This is a decent oil that doesn't smell like anything. If you wanna try a balm Amish Beard Balm is the one I use.

This and This are the two combs I have and use. Depending on what your mustache is might not need the smaller one. Scissors are nice to get rid of the crazy hairs.

Wax for me was the hardest to find a good one that didn't leave white stuff. Amish has one that I like and then I like This.

Any questions just ask!

Jojoba oil is what you should use. There's a lot of other oils and things that are added to beard oil mixes, but that's the critical ingredient.

This one is my personal favourite

And here's some products I use. Are these good, or should I throw any out? And I also have some beard oil on the way from Amazon that I'm going to start using. Here's the link.

Not sure about this, but this stuff is awesome. Just came back in stock too.

I'm still learning as well. I bought my first beard oil at the Art of the Shave store at the mall. It worked well, but I feel that mall prices are usually higher than they need to be. I'm currently using this:

https://www.amazon.com/Fragrance-Conditioner-Moisturized-Leven-Rose/dp/B00IB6IAOS

I've been using it for a couple of weeks so far and I haven't had any dander issues yet.

The important thing to remember is that you should rub the oil in to your skin beneath your beard. I do that and then add my beard Balm before brushing everything to the way I like it.

Here's what I've been using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IB6IAOS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_nviIvouqbwdm7

It's almost scentless, and this one bottle looks like it'll last me at least a year.

u/DFile · 0 pointsr/wicked_edge

I use Levan Rose beard oil. It's fragrance free and 100% organic, containing only Jojoba Oil and Moroccan Argan Oil. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IB6IAOS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_8DvKyb0BES5E4
