? You don't need any credentials to buy any kind of knife except a switch blade/autoopening folder. You can find that exact tool on several sites to buy without any credentials. Here it is on amazon

Just buy a multiool. Leatherman or Gerber. You'll use it on practically every set as well as find it handy in your regular life. Buy one of those brands and you'll have it forever as well. Leatherman Wave and Gerber Diesel are both great options (and we'll stay useful as grow past DSLR's, etc).
The mp600 is only £50. I’ll find an amazon link for you.
Edit: here it is - Gerber 07550 Needlenose Multi-Plier 600, Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000VORS1E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gq-0Db8A2J5Y5
On the cheaper side, Gerber MP 600.

I also recently purchased a Leatherman Wave as a bday present for me it's nice, though I found a new in box on Ebay so a little savings.
I do agree with others your gonna want a fix blade as well, Check out the Mora line affordable reliabable.

Let me make at least some defense for the Gerber team and give a shout out to my (Gerber 600)[http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000VORS1E]. Being able to open up the jaws one handed has been convenient many times.

2 knives will work. The first one needs to be burly, easily sharpened, and one that you don't mind beating up. Doesn't need to look like crocodile dundees knife. Personally I like the ontario aircrew survival knife. It's affordable, durable, and comes with a good leather sheath and sharpening stone. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CZDQPI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The other essential is a multi-tool. Either the basic Gerber or Leatherman will do. https://www.amazon.com/Gerber-MP600-Multi-Plier-Needle-47550/dp/B000VORS1E/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2ATZ9E2OJ54M9&keywords=gerber+mp600&qid=1569727801&s=gateway&sprefix=gerber+mp%2Caps%2C243&sr=8-1
I picked this guy up. I really like it a lot.
is it the same as this from amazon?
Man, now I want one.
Here's a link for the pliers from gerber http://www.gerbergear.com/Industrial/Tools/MP600_07500. I guess the military credentials are if you want a discount.
I work in a sheet metal shop and carry one of these. It gets the job done for a lot of the miscellaneous things I have to tinker with on a day to day basis.
