It certainly will be great.... optically that prime lens will do laps around the kit lens in any shooting shooting situation. In fact, prime lenses generally have superior optics to zooms. The trade off is that the focal length is fixed and you don't have the flexibility of zooming in. I'd suggest getting both... use the prime for 'beauty' shots and low-light scenarios, and use the kit lens for when you are in a run-n-gun situation where capture is more important than beauty.

With any lens shooting outdoors, the trick to getting a real cinematic image is to shoot at a very low aperture and to use ND filters, such as this one (Affiliate Link).

After doing more research - should I be getting a variable ND filter or a solid non-variable ND filter? Or a polarizing one?

In terms of brands, i'm looking at Fotga like the one /u/TheOmega3368 has, or:

  • Gobe
  • Tiffen
  • Polaroid

Anyone have experience with any of these variable ND filters and can recommend a brand? Again, would like it to be inexpensive, $30 or under!

    Thanks!
