I own a Gun Vault biometric safe which is located next to my bed. I have 3 young children and this is perfect for me. I programmed my fingerprints and after some learning on my part discovered that if I wet my finger a little (lick my finger then wipe it off) the safe reads my fingerprint better and opens immediately. It uses a 9 volt battery which lasts 6-9 months with me using it twice a day.
If you go this option I would recommend mounting the safe to something. Currently my safe just rests on the lower portion of my nightstand. I opted for the biometric safe which is a little more expensive. Do some research. I highly recommend this safe.

I use this GunVault and I love it.
The biometric scanner in the new models is much better than previous ones (in case some are going to argue their reliability).
Also, GunVault is a phenomenal company to work with, providing some of the best customer support and care I've ever experienced. Price is high, but in this instance, I firmly belief I got what I paid for.
