The stage kit is incredibly overrated at this point. They go for like $75 now and for that much money, you can get way more bang for your buck, and you can get something that will not only be compatible for both RB3 and RB4, but for basically any kind of party setting.
I highly recommend this setup:
2 Hexolight 3000's: http://www.amazon.com/HexoLight-3000-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B002Q86DFK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462488340&sr=8-1&keywords=hexolight+3000
About $50 for two of those, but these will be the main part of the setup. I have these running along the base of my TV in a row. They sync up with sound and lights, so if you have speakers that you can place them next to, it will make them go off at the right times.
For the walls/ceiling/rest of the room, go with 1 of each of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/311483203192?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

It'll be about 40ish dollars for both of those combined. I like to put the LED Dome light towards the front of the room and the laser light off to the side shining up at the ceiling and walls. All of this stuff combined can be used with any game or social setting, and is much better than the stage kit. You can also add a strobe and fogger to this setup, but I personally don't prefer those as it makes it a little hard to see the notes on the screen.
I can update this post with a video of my setup in action if you want to see what this all looks like.
I bought this a while back, but returned it when I found a stage kit for sale.

It's cool, but the Stage kit is way better.
