I've spent a long time looking for just this sort of keyboard, and the best two options I've found so far are:

HP Mini USB keyboard: http://amzn.com/B0025ZSBNG
I use this one in both my home and work offices. So much better for your back and shoulders to be able to center the keyboard under your monitor!

Pros:

  • has the keyboard layout you want
  • full sized keys

    Cons:

  • USB
  • The special keys at the top don't work on a Mac
  • You need to download KeyMapForMacbook to swap the windows and ALT keys so they work like option and command for your Mac.
  • looks kind of old fashioned but I don't really care because it works really well

    Logitech solar keyboard: http://amzn.com/B007VL8Y2C

    Pros:

  • Keys are spaced normally and not all smushed together like on the Apple Bluetooth keyboard

    *bluetooth

  • no batteries required

  • nice key press feel

    Cons:

  • no 6 key cluster for insert / home / page up / page down / delete / end / page down, but you can use the Fn key in combo with the directional arrows to achieve the same end.

Probably not. Hardware sits behind those 3 leds. So you have to but that too somewhere. Cutting the flex would be difficult also. I think that keyboards use some kind of matrixing and i think it would not work after cutting the end off. Buy something like this. It is not worth the hassle.

Finding a cheap compact non-low-profile keyboard will be hard under $20. Most people that buys compact keyboards are looking for low profile keyboards.

There is this HP keyboard for $25.99.

I guess if you must have a non-mechanical keyboard you could go for the bland hp keyboard

If you want something even smaller have a look at the Microsoft Arc

In any case I would recommend you reconsider a mechanical keyboard. You can get a Filco Majestouch Minila for about 100$. More than double the price of the regular keyboards but it does have better longevity (not that it matters too much with a keyboard, they last almost forever anyways) and quality.

Here are quite a few tenkeyless from Mechanical Keyboards. You can pick and choose what you're looking for there.

If you're not looking specifically for a mechanical, you can get a pretty generic rubber dome keyboard like this one from HP. Cooler Master does some "affordable-ish" mech keyboards in their gaming line as well.

Getting mechanical + backlit will whittle down your choices quite a bit for things under $110.
