Well, I know that bandaids, neosporin and aspirin/motrin are the three things that I absolutely never think of when I'm moving somewhere new... until I need them. So make sure you have those! It's easy to forget them amongst all the other stuff you're buying.

This is something that I've always thought looked like a very useful space saver for an apartment. Here is a slightly pricier version that also includes a spot for magazines!

And, for what I think is absolutely one of the most useful investments for an apartment, in terms of saving time and making good food, is a crock pot. Mine has helped me out on so many occasions, whether I'm cooking for a big group of friends, bringing food to a party, or just making something for my SO and I. And you can leave it on while you leave the house, which means you come home to hot dinner :)
