Do NOT get any internal sound card!!! I can't say this enough. People kept telling me and I didn't listed. I bought 2 of the best sound cards and had to return them due to interference. Get a DAC like the Schiit Modi 2 (Modi 2 Amazon link) or Modi 2 Uber and save yourself the frustration and have much better sound.

For speakers, check out the JBL LSR305 (Amazon link) (Amazon link with cables) or if those are too expensive check out the Micca MB42X. They're both great speakers. I got the JBL LSR305 about 6 months ago and they sound amazing with my Schiit DAC. Check on eBay too. I got a brand new Schiit DAC for about half the regular price and they have used ones even cheaper.

Even though you don't care too much for mixing, I recommend getting something of good quality to listen with. I have been using these JBLs and I'm very happy with the results. https://www.amazon.com/JBL-Studio-Monitor-Interfaces-Laptops/dp/B00JFN3KLY

Pssst JBL LSR305 with all the cords ya need. Who knows how effective the wave guide really is, but if you wanna change the way you perceive sound and music, these are generally agreed upon as one of the best monitors in it's price range. I have em on some hockey pucks and they're fucking fantastic. Here's a pretty good review of em.

Edit: As for the room, don't sweat it. Better to have proper monitors than not. Build up slowly.

The yamaha hs50m are a great pair and there is a difference between them, but not too noticeable for small bedroom producers, but you can find a pair pretty cheaply on juno.co.uk or ebay, but you can also look at the JBL 305, they are better than the hs5 or hs50m and are far cheaper. The yamaha's are good, certainly the hs7, but they are very expensive as your are paying for the company and the aesthetics, (from the legendary NS10s). The hs5 are missing bass and you would need a subwoofer depending on the music you produce, whilst jbl have a really good bass for the price.
Also, check the closest guitar center or shop with studio monitors you can try, and test the ones you are interested in and see from their. Also a good thing to note that the jbl 305s are compared to the hs7's.

okay I'm pretty set on buying the pair of JBL lsr305's off of amazon and I'm just wondering if I need an interface to use them and what fords I need

I have a PC that I want to hook them up to

Should I be okay with purchasing:
interface,
speakers and cords
Or do I need these cords too?

Hey guys!

Thinking about pulling the trigger on JSL 305s and I noticed this:

A pair of JBL 305s = $274

Bundle including two JBL 305s and cables = $250

Is there any reason to not go for the bundle?

u/evilmnky204 · 1 pointr/audiophile

A single JBL LSR305 for $150 isn't much of a deal, they'll regularly go below the combined $300 if you buy the paired packages. For example, here is a package that has a pair of LSR305s, as well all the cables you'd need for them.

The JBL LSR305 can be found in that budget. Here are a pair with cables for $260.

The Presonus monitors are actually pretty good. I know a couple people that love theirs. If all you can afford is $200, then go for it. If you are able to save up another $100, then consider this JBL 305 package. I actually just ordered this package myself for the vinyl room after A/B testing monitors at Guitar Center.

They are balanced monitors, so you need a balanced out of your DAC/soundcard or a converter to convert a single ended lineout from your soundcard into two balanced lines to feed the monitors.

They are Powered Monitors. Each speaker has their own Amp built in. You just plug them in to the wall and feed them a line in. No amp needed. They also have crossovers so that you can fine tune the freq range between the woofer and the tweeter.

Thanks for the response! Based on what you said, I'll probably still pick up the D1010s for my photo-editing setup. Besides that, I've already ordered a pair of JBL LSR305s for my main setup from Amazon. If you want any opinions on them, I'll be glad to help you out!
