It's tricky to install new rear speakers, but I would do that if were you. When you do that, you'll know if you need to re-wire the speakers, because the wire (iirc) just runs under the carpet in the interior. It'll be easy to add a new wire for the back speakers and you could probably just rip out the wire that is in there, or just leave it.
I installed these rear speakers in my '86 a few years ago and they sound great. Accessing those rear speakers is a pain, but it's not that bad. I didn't remove the rear windows, but I heard it's easier if you just remove the rear windows... but then you risk breaking them iirc. When I did it, it took me about 5 hours, but I was taking my time. I actually bought these speakers as front speakers initially, but they didn't fit in the front lol. I still need new front speakers, but my sound system is pretty decent as is.
