I don't have a Husky but I have Samoyeds which are from the same family of breeds.

  1. Good idea on walking her early in the morning and late in the evening when it's cooler, they do overheat easily but it is definitely possible to have one in FL, I know quite a few wonderful Samoyed owners and breeders who live there.

  2. Yes, do wait on spaying her until she is 12-14 months old, this will give her growth plates time to close and reduce her risk of hip dysplasia and CCL disease. Don't spay her too close to before or after her heat, that can be very dangerous.

  3. I know Husky coat is a bit different to a Samoyed's but being a double coated breed the most important thing is to keep the undercoat free from mats and tangles. Here is a good tutorial on line combing it's an important technique for keeping the coat tangle free. You can also get some leave in spray conditioner to make the grooming easier, this one is my favorite to use on my dogs because it doesn't have too strong of a scent (my dogs hate very perfumy ones) and it doesn't get sticky/build up in the coat.

Keeping the nails trimmed is very important, you can either use a doggy nail clipper or a pet dremel. I prefer the latter because there is pretty much no way I could hurt their quick with it whereas with a nail clipper I've done it on a couple of occasions :/

  4. With the cat I would crate the puppy when you aren't closely supervising them because Nordic breeds do have a prey drive. I never had cats with my dogs so can't give you much advice there unfortunately but I'm sure there are great youtube training videos and articles out there on the issue.

  5. Good idea on the obedience classes, not only will it teach you and your dog basic obedience skills but it will also be a great bonding experience for you two :) I find the more stuff I do with my dogs the closer our bond is.
