If your cheap you could look at doing a scout set up that way you do not need to modify the bolt handle or drill and tap the receiver. The 91/30 have a dovetail rail under the rear sight and you can get a scope mount for less than 20 dollars on amazon for example. Thats about the cheapest and easiest way to IMO. Add a Leatherwood/ Hi-Lux Scope and your done.

The ATI stocks are okay nothing fancy.

Yep, 11mm aka 3/8" (although those two measurements are slightly different).

I would recommend a UTG 1 piece mount for springers. I've got 2, and they haven't budged after several thousand shots.

Just make sure you get rings sized for your scope - either 1" or 30mm.

Slavia has 11mm rail so you would look for 11mm mount. eg
UTG scope has mount included, but is for 22mm rail so you can sell that mount and get some money back.
As you mentioned hunting, slavia will easily kill pigeons, squirrels, rats, but for something bigger you need a bigger gun :)

Up under the rear sight there is a small dovetail. It took some effort because the rust and cosmoline had the sight glued to the gun. A little heat helps. I bought these mounts on Amazon: Leapers Accushot 1-Pc Mount, Dovetail, for 1" Rings https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BR4TJY/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_HeaLxb4MD9V6P
And the mount slip right on. It's solid milled aluminium and really sturdy. I haven't lost zero yet a month later.

Oops, I typed all that and forgot about this thing.

If you don't care about using iron sights, and you can deal with the long eye relief, then that looks like a super way to mount. Also heard they work great on Marlin 60s, which can be a pain to get a solid mount on (some people even recommend drilling your receiver and putting in a set screw - ick.)

The bag for the TakeDown "lite" seems to be a bit larger in width than the regular TakeDown bag. I bought the Leapers Accushot mount for this rifle.

I use this mount, works fine so far.

And this scope

Hardest part of mounting/zeroing was getting the stock rear sight off.

I'm planning on getting this scope mount for my mosin. It replaces the rear sight leaf and mounts directly onto the 3/8" dovetail and locks down with screws. Everything I've read about it seems pretty solid and holds a zero just fine.

Had the same problem you did, what you need is this right here:
http://www.amazon.com/Leapers-Accushot-Mount-Rings-Dovetail/dp/B001BR4TJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346693642&sr=8-1&keywords=Leapers+Accushot+1-Pc+Mount+w%2F1%22+Rings%2C+3%2F8%22+Dovetail

Edit:Cool getting down voted by a coward for offering advice which fixed the problem for me.

I can't remember the name offhand, but there is a 1 piece base and rings thing made out of solid aluminum on amazon for about $20 bucks. Guys use them on the mosin dovetail or on 22s.

Here you go. It's Leapers http://www.amazon.com/Leapers-Accushot-Mount-Rings-Dovetail/dp/B001BR4TJY/ref=pd_sim_sg_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=13MR835A4DDW5EHN82N2
