I found these overhead storage hooks on Amazon and am trying them out on the underside of my exposed garage ceiling joists:

Last weekend, I hung 10 of these (in two parallel rows of 5) from 5 ceiling joists. I did a test and I can hang and do pullups off of one of the hooks (I weigh 150 lbs). I have them loaded between 40-50lbs each. So call it an additional load of 100lbs per joist. These hangers seem sturdy though they do make me a little nervous. This weekend I'm going to add some nylon webbing safety straps which should protect me against a failure of the hangers or their screws.
