Well this mouse is awesome. It already has the perfect functionality on openSUSE, it's just on Windows that I had problems (which are now solved). The hardware is great, it was a software deficiency.
Maybe go with a trackball?

I use one of these, helps eliminate carpal tunnel
I had actually 2. First I tried this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043A1F4S/ref=s9_top_hd_bw_g147_i7?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=0EEWJ1D8EZ7Q60SC9R5H&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=9eec2820-3415-4c0f-adb5-c15eb12cd203&pf_rd_i=172499. But I didn't really like it, the ball placement was kind of weird.
After that I got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005T406/ref=s9_top_hd_bw_g147_i6?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-2&pf_rd_r=0EEWJ1D8EZ7Q60SC9R5H&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=9eec2820-3415-4c0f-adb5-c15eb12cd203&pf_rd_i=172499 and I still have this one. The 'mouse' buttons are kind of weird at first, but it was more comfortable than the first one.
Speaking of trackballs, I used this until it died, then I bought another one and used it until it died. Logitech really does make some of the the best pointing hardware.
No problemo with my 3 furryners
Here's a free one that seems to work pretty well: https://dictation.io/ Just go to the page and click "start recording."
There's also a Chrome addon for that app. Here's an article on it.
I think you can likely use another web-based editor with the Chrome addon to finish your works.
If that doesn't work out for you, you may also be able to find someone to transcribe regular audio recordings for you. That'll likely cost money though.
One other thing, in case it helps, to protect my wrists, I've been using the Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, and this Logitech Marble mouse (there seems to be a new version of that mouse that's a lot cheaper, for some reason.) I'm not sure if it'll help you specifically, but they do seem to help me with my wrists..
Hopefully this helps. Good to hear that you're continuing with your writing!
I never used a mouse with one button and I agree it's stupid. Luckily OS X supports what ever type of mouse you want.
(Me, I use a logitech four button marble mouse. Once you try a trackball you'll never want to use a regular mouse again.)
