My east facing widow wasn't cutting it for my ever expanding plant collection. Decided to introduce some artificial light to help them get through the winter. Probably isn't helping much since I don't really know what I'm doing but it feels like it is doing something. Went with these light bulbs over the pinkish LED grow lights for aesthetic reasons. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

High lumen LED light bulbs like these, or building your own key light with LED strips is the way to go.

They all run extremely cool. When using bulbs, you'll want something like a positional desk lamp so you can spotlight areas that might have shadows and blast them out of existence.

That's the super budget way to go.

That one would look better but it still has UV so it still is a safety risk.

I don’t know what brand of bulbs I use but I’ve used bulbs similar to these with great success

Most normal led bulbs for human use will work for plants too.

The only difference is that the spectrum of grow lights is distorted in an attempt to be more efficient but the science behind that is not good.

To get technical. The main light absorbing molecule in plants is chlorophyll which absorbs red and blue light really well. These companies tune their grow lights to that to avoid wasting energy on light that the plan won’t consume as easily. But... there are other light absorbing molecules in plants as well and it looks like broad spectrum white light has benefits for overall plant health.

Edit: I don’t want to imply that those purple lights don’t work. I have/use a few different brands of them just not in a living space. I have also noticed improvements in plant health once I started supplementing them with white light.

Here is a thread from a different gardening sub with some good info

The only one I can get to without stepping on a ladder or undoing some covers has a GE logo and no other identification, but I haven't changed my home's CFLs for years so I really couldn't say. It's a short, helical 15Ws if that's worth anything, but the others are various wattages and sizes. I've only got one overhead fixture in the house with bulbs that come on dim and they look like floodlights, but are CFL on the inside.

That said, I had to get some obnoxiously bright LEDs for my grandmother just last week and I was very impressed at how blinding they could be.
