have you checked out the 'smart bulbs' that are out- they have bluetooth and you control them with an app on your phone.
You can set timers, have different colors, patterns. sunrise and sunset, ie dim off at night and dim on in the morning.

This smart lightbulb can be controlled thru a smartphone app, will that work?
Really cool! Although, why not save the hassle and just throw in a color changing LED bulb. Cheaper than a PI and a lot less time spent programming since you have to piece together that lamp ;)

I mean like the one that's default in the center, that opens the multiple different actions.
I’d like to have top be calendar, right be most commonly used wear apps (whoopee wear, hangouts, keep etc) and then left be phone apps that I would like to launch, mostly for in the car that have an auto play sort of option so I wouldn’t have to touch my phone at all, or try to yell over the road noise. (waze, Pandora, google play music, or some specific playlists etc)
I have a Bluetooth led light that my girlfriend got me for Christmas. Since the watch tap actions have tasker support I'm going to make some tasker things (somehow) to be able to have that turn on and off my light from my watch.

For $30, here's something fun: Bluetooth-controlled color changing LED lightbulb
I got one of these for a gift, and it's fantastic! Kinda on the fringe of engineering, but it's a great a gift idea that I never would've purchased for myself.
My plan with the lamps is replace the bulbs to these LED color changing ones. I will have an entertainment stand coming that should help to hide them. maybe I could look into a way to try and reduce their height so they don't stand out as much.
