I told my sister-in-law about the artificially sweetened maple syrup I use to coat squash and sweet potatoes before roasting. She said in that tone of voice "but that has *aspartame* in it." [Sigh]. Yup. But it's one weapon in my arsenal to help me make warm and delicious fall foods without breaking the calorie bank.
