/u/Amf08d - with a <$2000 budget, unless you plan to use the camera for still photography, you might want to consider a cinema camera instead of a still camera (e.g., the GH3) that has been modified to shoot video .
This could actually save you some money, because you wouldn't be paying for still camera features you don't need (e.g., the pop-up flash).
And cinema cameras record to a less compressed "RAW" codec. Most of Hollywood's digital films are shot on Arriflex or RED cameras and recorded to RAW.
Still/video compromise cameras on the other hand, generally record to amateur 8-bit codecs (or at best, 10-bit).
Instead of an 8-bit camera, you might want to consider an affordable camera that records to 12-bit losslessly compressed 1080/60p RAW, such as the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera ([$995 new with a free Oly 40-150 lens] (https://www.amazon.com/Blackmagic-Design-Micro-Cinema-Camera/dp/B01D7ZOYUG/ref=as_li_ss_tl?m=A17MC6HOH9AVE6&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1519140243&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) or up for auction right now on eBay for [$699.99 used with lenses, a bag and extra batteries] (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575034783&toolid=10001&campid=5337235943&customid=&icep_item=192481352285&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg)).
You would also need a monitor (I recommend the [$249.99 Ikan VL35 3/5" monitor with the LP-E6 battery plate] (https://www.amazon.com/Ikan-VL35-Camera-Monitor-Battery/dp/B01IUANCOM//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20)), a [$79.99 cage] (https://www.amazon.com/SmallRig-Blackmagic-Cinema-Camera-Studio/dp/B01JGDENAE//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20), at least one [cold shoe adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/Version-SmallRig-Adapter-Bracket-Moniter/dp/B00HJFBUCQ//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) and [$6.97 swivel to mount the monitor] (https://www.amazon.com/Mekingstudio-Adapter-Camcorder-Monitors-Cellphone/dp/B01JIHGFWC//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) as well as a wide-angle low light lens (I recommend the [$195 SLR Magic 8mm f/4] (https://www.amazon.com/SLR-Magic-8mm-4-0-Panasonic/dp/B0774ST1ZX//ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=battleforthew-20) to get started).
This setup, with two lenses, would cost you $1532.94 and produce results like these with the 8mm lens:
Here is the more general image quality this camera can produce:
Narrative
Docs
Music Video
TV commercials and promos
The BMMCC captures so much information at 1080p, that it still looks clean when blown up to 4K:
There are many more examples in the [Pocket/Micro Cinema Camera group] (https://vimeo.com/groups/pocketcamera) I moderate over on Vimeo.
Although Blackmagic cameras have a steeper learning curve than consumer DSLRs or mirrorless cameras, and color grading in post is pretty much mandatory - in my view, they are the best pure filmmakers' cameras in this price range and well worth the money.
If you decide to get the BMMCC, you might want to subscribe over at /r/bmpcc and /r/Blackmagicdesign - lots of knowledgeable folks there who can help you get the most out of your new camera.
Hope this is helpful and good luck with finding the right camera for your needs!
