You can pick up a cheap network cam for about $200. A pi and webcam with enclosures and shipping would cost you about the same. The advantage is that network cam is specialize and has nifty mounts. The pi-cam is completely customizable. I comes down to what you want.

  Total Price: $154 for hardware that can only do about 6 frames / second at full resolution. The advantage of the PI is that you can customize it anyway you want. The disadvantage is it's very under powered. I have heard that Beagle Bone Black's can get up to 25 fps with a similar setup (under best conditions).

yea I'm looking at that now. It seems sometimes IR cut off means no IR and sometimes means only IR. I'll be careful.

In a perfect world I'd find there is a kind of clear spray that works and I could coat a small piece of plexy. Or that some eye glasses do it and could make a lens out of that.... or I would find the Microsoft HD webcam does it out of the box.

I'm setting up a photo booth for our wedding, but I wanted to make prints on the spot as party favors. I plan on using SparkBooth ($60) and a color photo printer that I already had. I'm using this camera that I got from Amazon, because I've heard good things about it.

Although SparkBooth isn't free, I think it's great. Optional features include: printing immediately, uploading to facebook/twitter/email, and you can choose the number of photos, where they are placed (based on pre-defined templates that you can use a custom background), and a bunch more settings.

It can also store the photos on the hard drive, which is what it looks like you'll be doing.

I've searched for a viable free software option, but didn't find anything near the quality of SparkBooth.

This is what have and it works great. Pan and tilt and even has thread for a tripod mount if you don't want it on top of a monitor or on your desk.

The mount is flexible to contour to a bunch of surfaces and monitor types.

Get your internet checked! Have your internet providers come out to see if anythings wrong with your internet. My gal has over the top wiring to her house (telephone poles) and apparently the coax line that fed her house was patched with duct-tape and eventually water seeped in and it was destroying her internet connectivity.

Also make sure you are using high quality equipment. Also, ensure that you have enough bandwidth on both ends. I believe the recommended amount of speed for a decent audio/video call is 1 megabit per second for both upload and download speeds.
