Scanning with a DSLR can take a while, since you have to setup, position the film and so on. But that camera raw file is an absolute monster for image control. 24mpx will give you a nice big file, too. Done properly, it will kick the ass of anything but a high-end lab scanner. You may find you need an extension tube along with a macro, but a set of three is cheap.

I don't do enough scanning to really mess with it, but if I did, I'd buy a cheap cinema rail system to mount the camera, and a rail system lens support - I'd mount the camera on the rails, and adapt the support to hold some sort of hinged glass carrier with white translucent acrylic or plex (like a $5 piece from a cut-to-order site) behind the film. Once you dialed in the right distance, it would be easy to set up anytime and blow through some film. You wouldn't have nearly as hard a time getting the film squared up to the camera, and your scanning rig could just be snapped onto a tripod, pretty much ready to go. Just stick whatever QR plate you use on the thing.

I found these and was going to order one because it's 1/4" so I don't have to worry about an adapter and I wouldn't mind spending a few extra bucks to get something with rails for the future, but now I think the tension lock things might not work because it's a flat baseplate, not just like a straight screw mount or whatever. So I might have to get a smaller flat one similar to something you posted.
