Welcome, mate! Glad to have you. This will help.
You need to pick up the book by u/nathanwpyle - I lived in NYC for years and his book is accurate and so damn funny. My favorite tip is about the empty subway car. His tips are not just for the metro, but for NYC in general https://www.amazon.com/Basic-Tips-Etiquette-Nathan-Pyle/dp/0062303112
Welcome! I don't know the specifics of your stay, so I'll keep it generic'ish
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm over a decade older than you, so I think showing you around would just cramp your style. I'll see if any Filipinas I know around your age might be interested

I especially love it when they get in a bike lane or clearly-marked cycle track instead of the sidewalk, staring at their phone while shuffling along, and get startled and angry when I yell "look up!" so I don't plow into them.
> They just have a possibly deserved reputation for rudeness.
So have you ever been driving and got stuck behind someone who was going WAY too slow? Then you finally find a way to pass them and glance over to see they are doing something insane like texting or putting on eye make-up? How angry were you? How absolutely FURIOUS were you that they were just not paying attention?
That is what it feels like to us New Yorkers when we are walking behind (or other wise inconvenienced) by a tourist. That's where the rude reputation comes from. It's real easy to get in the way of someone who is just trying to get to work or grab lunch. If your wondering around NYC talking your sweet time eventually you'll be the 1,000th person to piss someone off an they'll just snap. Is this a good reason to snap? Nope, but it'll still happen.
All that said, if you ask for help you'll get it in spades. Knowledge of NYC is a something we pride our selves on. If we have the time we'll tell you everything you need to know and more.
NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette is a great book on this stuff if anyone is interested. It's got some awesome stuff
