The blade needs to be straight for it to cut properly, another department where I work has one and when I used it I noticed the last wire on one end wasn't being cut all the way through even fully squeezing the crimpers. I straightened out the blade and retightened it and it works fine.

The one I purchased for myself cut perfectly out of the packaging and I haven't needed to mess with it in the 6 months I've had it.

I understand if you don't want to buy this stuff for ONE cable, but if you have any plans to make cables in the future be it at this job or another, I cannot recommend the EZRJ-45 tools enough. They are a huge time saver and they are worth every penny.

I also buy the clear boots

and I use these on pretty much every cable I make.

It brings a very professional look to the cables imo

Here's the end of a patch cable I made yesterday with all said tools.

But they have their own crimper that cuts off the excess wire. I've never used them but I know people who do and they like them.
