I see :( What series was it? How was reading through it?

Good point, I'll have to try looking them up by radical instead of drawing them :) I've been going through Heisig's "Remembering the Kanji" to learn new kanji and I try to learn how to read/write them when I learn new words.

I don't think they're specifically for books, but my friend recommended these which I've used for some of my volumes. I'm not sure I like the ziploc, though; it's kind of difficult to get them in and out. Were you talking about something like this?
