I used to work at a pet store and I have mixed feelings about the FURminator. People swear by it because it always removes a lot of fur, but it's designed to remove the undercoat whether or not it's already shedding. So overusing it can irritate the skin and damage the coat by removing too much undercoat.
I would recommend a basic slicker brush with a push button that makes removing the fur from the brush really easily. This can (and should) be used regularly on a springer to prevent tangles and remove loose fur.

I use this one and I love it. I know a lot of people use the Furminator but I never found that one to be very good on my lab. The bristles on this brush are a little sharp, so you have to be gentle on the belly (which my dog LOVES to be brushed on lol.....ummmm that's not really the part that's shedding, buddy), but that's the only drawback that I've found.
