I'm having trouble picturing the belt+bunching shorts. I'm thinking your problem may be your holster. IIRC Blackhawk's quality is sub-par, and should be avoided for any practical use. I'm slightly taller than you but a couple pounds heavier as well. I carry using a Gap belt that I found in my neighbors house when he moved. It was too small now...for his wife. It's the only belt I wear regularly and is made of a good leather that's fairly thin.

I wouldn't use one of those because the trigger is exposed. If you're looking for a minimalist holster I have one of these and like it a lot
