I really like my Razer Carcharias. It is very comfortable and the mic works well. Amazon has it even cheaper.

I had a Creative Fatal1ty Mark II that I liked, but I tripped over the wire and broke the connections.

I replaced it with a Razer Carcharias that I absolutely love. The earpieces are a breathable foam that doesn't make my head sweat slightly like the Fatal1ty sometimes did. It's about $80 new, but I got it for about $55 refurbished on Amazon. It's nothing fancy, but it's great for the price.

EDIT: It's not USB if that is a big deal for you. I didn't want USB anyway.

I've heard nothing but good reviews on the Zalman zm-mic1 even though it looks and costs nothing like quality. I've also heard several sound samples of it and it does backup the reviews. Then it's just up to finding a good pair of headphones. I'm currently in the market for headphones and a mic aswell but I have a bit of a bigger budget. A lot of people suggest the Audio Technica AD700's but I've seen mixed reviews especially when it comes to the headphones fitting properly. If you decide to go for a regular pc headset where the mic and headphones are attached I suggest you steer clear from the Razer Carcharias, it's what I currently have and the audio leaks into the microphone so people on the other end can hear what I'm listening to at low volume. A friend of mine recently go the Corsair HS1 and it sounds really good according to him, but he hasn't been able to use it's mic yet.(his soundcard is a bit fucky) I don't think you can get a really definite answer to what headphone/mic combo is the best because everyone has their own taste in sound. Just try to avoid any phones that have "gamer" plastered all over the box because they generally won't be good for anything OTHER than games.

As a side note, in the end of my hunt for a good pair I'll be going with the aforementioned Zalman zm-mic1 and a pair of AKG K240 MKII's...one major attracting point for these headphones for me is that the cable is modular so when I inevitably break it (I have bad luck with headphone cables) I can just swap to the 2nd that's in the box.

http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Carcharias-Over-Gaming-Headset/dp/B001PTH0VW It's really comfy on my ears, which can get pretty sore with normal headphones.

Edit: I should note that I do quite a bit of recording, and the audio quality of this is superb. It captures the voice really crisply.

u/DocJRoberts · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

my current Carcharias are probably the most comfortable set I've ever owned. They go on sale all over the place all the time so 70 bucks isn't a necessity. I got mine at Best Buy for 50. I also love that it uses 3.5mm jacks instead of USB like most every other "modern" headset, allowing you to plug in and unplug whenever you want and not have to restart games or software like you have to do with USB.

u/Vandyyy · 2 pointsr/counterstrike

If you need something with the mic functionality, that cuts your options in half. If you're only using it for gaming and you're not an audiophile, just search in the $50-100 price range and make sure above all else that the reviews say they're comfortable. If you're pouring hours into a video game, you don't want a headache after the first thirty minutes because they don't fit well. See if any friends have closed ear (noise-cancelling) headphones, and be sure to try open-ear as well. I personally prefer open-ear any day of the week, but everyone has their own preferences.

Personally, I use Razer Carcharias and they've been comfortable and durable as can be. The sound is meh, but I was on a budget when I bought them. If I had the choice to do it over again, I'd get a set of audiophile headphones, maybe Senny 650's or something. If I had the same $80 budget, though, I'd re-buy the Razer in a heartbeat.

TL;DR: Make sure they're comfortable, pick a price point, and decide between open-ear and noise-cancelling.

u/Suicidal360Flip · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

Logan reviewed 2 headphones that are less than $50 each. Here is the video.

For the mic you can always just pick up the very popular Zalman clip-on mic or spend more money for a modmic.

Edit: This setup is more about audio quality than comfort now that I took a second to think about it. Sorry. I'll leave it up for people who likes options.

Edit 2: I have owned this headset and I can say they were very comfortable, and at the perfect price point for you OP.

I owned a Creative fatality a bit back and Creative was great while I was in warranty but the hardware is just weak, so soon after I dropped out of warranty the thing broke and I was out a headset. I've heard the Razer Carchias is wicked comfortable and has decent sound/mic quality, or I might just skip the 'gaming headset' and pick up some cheaper side Sennheisers and get a clip on mic.

Are you looking for the little ones that go in your ear? Or the normal sized kind? I just ordered a set of these yesterday

On the Razer website they're normally $80.

its more than 50, but its well worth it. had mine for about 3 years and the sound is still amazing

one of the most comfortable headsets too

u/Klexicon · 1 pointr/gaming

I've gotten better mic and sound quality from a $20 Logitech headset. And I still didn't say the whole company was bad. They do sell more than just headsets. I'm just saying if your going to buy a headset then go with a company known for their headsets like Turtle Beach or one of those types.

Edit: And for the record, its not a sub $50 headset. It costs nearly $80.

u/IceMaine · 1 pointr/headphones

If the way you intend to use them fits how the ATH-AD300s fit, I'd recommend them. They're open, extremely light and comfortable, and fit well within your budget. I think they average for around $60, but I found a deal on them Q4 last year and got them for $20. The fit for Audio Technica's ATH-AD series is unique and not made for running or laying on your side, but they are extremely comfortable for sitting upright.

edit: If you're looking for something that has an integrated mic, I've really enjoyed the comfort and sound of the Razer Carcharias. I've worn them for hours at a time for gaming, skype, and listening to music without a complaint. Extremely comfortable and affordable (around the same price as the Audio Technicas).

u/NatsumiRin · 1 pointr/steelseries

Could you give examples for some good no mic ones? I haven't used the mic on my gaming headset for a long time, so I'll get good quality headphones while looking for a real mic.

Bought the Arctis 5 headset today because my 2-3 year old Razor Carcharias broke and I needed some headphones. So I'm looking for better ones because these Arctis 5s dont even come close to the Carcharias audio quality.

Let me help you then, what is most important to you? Here are your categories and I want you to rank them in level of importance from 1-10.

Version 1 and 2 controllers look like this

Version 3 looks like this

If I recall correctly, version 2 looks like the version 1 controller but has a USB connector in addition to the 3.5mm connectors. So if I had to guess I'd say that you had a version 2 based on your last response.

On a whim, I just went looking for version 1 units, and I found them, for 186 dollars, lol.

Amazon also has a Kraken Pro for 55 dollars (free shipping with prime) for brand new, as opposed to 45 for the refurb on Newegg.

Split stuff up and make your post more readable. I can't tell what the hell is going on up there.

From my first pass it's very hard to tell why this is costing $1800 although I could easily be misreading something.

Thanks for cleaning it up.

It looks like a nice solid build although I have one main comment:

I've been suggesting against SSD. Almost all of them have been having firmware issues and programs take up enough space where you spend too much money per gb than it's worth (imo). My software and games alone takes up over 500gb of space.

I would suggest dumping the SSD and picking up a nicer monitor. That monitor isn't BAD but nothing bothers me more than people who pay X thousand dollars on a computer and then skimp on the monitor, keyboard, mouse, sound, etc.

Trust me, nice peripherals will increase your enjoyment of the computer a whole lot more than that SSD. I spent $500 on an LED 120hz 24" monitor which I admit is way too much, but you know what? It's fucking awesome.

My suggestion would be to dump the cheap ACER and SSD which brings back about $470.00 and go for the following:

Better monitor: ASUS ML249H Black 24" or Acer B243HLbmdrz Black 24" ~$260 after shipping

Nice Gaming Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow ~$80 -- The ultimate version is about $50 more if you want a backlight and some USB ports.

Nice Gaming Mouse: Razer Lachesis 5600dpi, Logitech G9x or Logitech G500 ~$60-80

Nice Gaming Headset: Corsair HS1A, Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha or Razer Carcharias ~$50-80

Any of these three headsets are great choices imo

u/LXZY · 1 pointr/buildapc

What about razer charcharias and two extension cables(one for the mic, the other for the headset), or just razer orcas and one extension cable?

u/cardboard8bit · 1 pointr/gaming

I haven't really heard people mention it too often, but from a year of personal experience, I can say that this will get the job done. Great noise cancellation and it is extremely comfortable.

Razer Carcharias

u/Dsch1ngh1s_Khan · 1 pointr/gaming

If you're talking about a PC headset, I REALLY like these

They are really comfortable, it fits around the ear instead of resting on the ear.. and they just use a really comfortable material all around.

u/evergreen2011 · 1 pointr/gaming

I have a pair of Razer Carcharias

I had a few cheap sets over the years, and was frustrated by lack of quality of them being uncomfortable. I picked these up after reading many reviews, and on the recommendation of a guy I worked with (he later decided to upgrade to the Megalodon's, but returned them because he didn't feel the difference in quality was worth the increased price.)

These things are very comfortable, the quality of sound is good, and the microphone produces high quality voice. The one downside is that the sound tends to be a bit 'boomy' - there is some exaggerated bass.

I do use them for everyday listening as well as gaming, and they sound quite good. However, for a more 'accurate' listening experience I also have a pair of Grado SR60s which are more portable, but honestly the Razer set sounds just fine.

I'd also recommend looking into some of the Sennheiser sets - I've seen them get great marks, but I don't have any personal experience with them.

u/megamanxtc · 1 pointr/linux

Who cares about some made in China/Taiwan crap. IMO the only good thing they ever made was the old Carcharias and getting Yuka Kuramochi as a spokesperson in Japan.

u/stopthemeyham · 0 pointsr/GoodValue

I actually purchased a razer headset a few years ago with felt ear coverings, a mic, a mute/volume control knob, all the usual extended wear crap, etc. and I have dropped it, knocked it off my desk, and my room even flooded and they got wet. And I'll be damned if they aren't nearly bulletproof, have a good sound quality and a pretty great sounding mic.

Now, on the downside, this could be 100% fluke and I got the ones manufactured the day the factory supervisor was there so everything was perfect, but thus far they're wonderful.

EDIT:: it was the Razer Carcharias
