Hi there! Im a GDM researcher and came her to say first of all its not your fault, you're going to be just fine, and its okay to feel overwhelmed. Theres a lot of information that is given during GDM, some of it very conflicting. The important thing is that first off you get the "now" under control i.e. Blood sugars/diet and then take your GDM and see it as an opportunity to change and adopt healthy lifestyle habits for both you and baby but also your partner and other children if you have, maybe even the dog.

One thing that I have learned in my research is that GDM diagnosis and education for women is kind of a "one size fits all" which is totally not okay. If you are worried about what you are eating, pay attention to foods that are high in sugar but also foods that convert into sugar like breads.

In utero there is good evidence to suggest that high sugar during the critical development of your baby's pancreas can actually make your baby produce more beta cells (which produce insulin) and when this happens your baby is predisposed to being more insulin resistant.

I recommend checking out this great book: "Real Food for Gestational Diabetes: An Effective Alternative to the Conventional Nutrition Approach"
