Hi! I'll be moving from the tropics to chilly UK from January-June next year, and I'm really confused about outerwear. I've read the winter outerwear threads, but I'm not sure if I should

get one all-purpose waterproof parka: I'm eyeing this girls' Patagonia parka. It's got a hood, will be fairly waterproof, and will be knee-length. But holy shit, $250 is a lot to spend on a coat. I looked at this Uniqlo girls' parka as well, but I'm worried it won't be able to withstand the rain.

go with a decent rain jacket. I've got a couple affordable options, but will need to layer quite a bit underneath. I thought this Joules jacket might be quite nice, and this windproof parka would be good for cycling in the rain. Would I need to layer with another coat over the rainjacket?

Help. What do people usually do?
