When I saw this I thought the same thing. If you reapply try hitting the grout occasionally with a very light mist from a spray bottle. Though this is something I do with drying concrete since I'm in the desert, so it might not be absolutely correct for your situation. One of my friends mixes his grout so thin he squeegees it in (with a pole squeegee) and doesn't have a lot of trouble with shrinkage to my knowledge, though the grout is definitely weaker (I but heads with him all the time over this, and it's the reason I didn't contract out tile jobs to him, which made him super mad...)
On a side note, I have had some success using one of these and a diamond blade to cut all of the grout out at my house after I made the mistake of letting my dog walk around on the tile before I had sealed anything.
